Use and Care for Uniform
Use
►The marching band uniform is the property of Creekside High School and is for use during marching band activities only. The band member is completely responsible for uniform at all times.
►Uniforms are inspected before distribution and must be returned on the date specified by the band director in the same condition it was received. Band members will be charged for repairs or replacement uniform up to $400 as determined by the band director.
Uniform Parts (non-guard members)
►Jacket – provided by band. Jacket is worn completely on or completely off. “Completely on” means the front is closed with out exposed Velcro. When on hanger the jacket front is closed. Exposed Velcro snags the jackets fabric.
►Black Bib Pants – provided by band. Gym shorts or other elastic (without zippers) shorts should be worn under bib pants. Shorts allow for quick clothing changes and absorb perspiration. Jeans or other long pants are too bulky to wear under bib pants.
►Band T-shirt – provided by band. T-shirt is worn under band jacket.
►Black Dinkles – purchased by band member. Shoes are clean and shined at all times.
►Black crew socks – purchased by band member. Black socks need to cover ankle, solid black without pattern or print. Navy blue is not black.
►Black gloves – first pair provided by band. Replacement gloves if needed can be purchased from Band Director for $5. Fingers may be cut from gloves if needed.
►No jewelry, makeup or nail polish can be visible in uniform. Hair must be kept out of eyes. If it is long enough, hair should be braided (preferred) or placed in a ponytail. Otherwise, clips and bobby pins can be used to pin hair away from the face. This applies to males and females.
►Completeness of uniform will be inspected prior to every performance. Consequences for failure to be in complete uniform will be determined by band director and/or section leaders, including loss of 3rd Quarter and cleaning up band room.
Care of Uniform
►Transportation – Uniform is transported on a wide, heavy hanger (jacket or suit hanger) in a closed, labeled garment bag. Cleaner’s plastic or garbage bags are not considered a proper garment bag. Damp, sweaty uniforms should be hung on a hanger to allow them to air dry before placing in garment bag.
►Dry Cleaning – Band members are responsible for dry cleaning uniform jackets and bib pants by a professional dry cleaner. Home dry cleaning products can not be used. Uniforms must be freshly dry cleaned when odorous, soiled, before judged competition/FBA, and before returning at the end of season. Tip: do not take uniform to cleaners on a hanger; they do not give it back! Replace cleaner’s wire hangers with wide, heavy jacket/suit hanger as soon as possible.
►Alterations – Sleeves and pants can be hemmed. Band parents are available to assist with pinning and hemming. Sleeves and pant legs are never cut to shorten. Hemming must be with black thread. Tape, staples, fusible web must not be used. Pant leg should be just above but not touching the top of shoes.
