CAPLAX Conversion to US Lacrosse Member League

Issue: CAPLAX struggles with inconsistent player/coach/officials development due to a lack of local training and must secure General Liability Insurance through multiple instruments-US Lacrosse plus a Bollinger bolt on policy(for non-US Lacrosse programs) during the season and or tournament/playdate insurance to facilitate activities.

Opportunity: CAPLAX can increase the level of play across our league with more consistency in player/coach/official development by leveraging programs available through US Lacrosse. Being a US Lacrosse member league with a broader membership base increases US Lacrosse support and investment. The league and all programs can be insured and operate more efficiently under a common US Lacrosse-Bollinger policy.

Proposal: Require US Lacrosse Membership of all Programs/Teams coaches and players.

Options:

OPTIONS/PROGRAMS / Current
US Lacrosse / Current Not
US Lacrosse / New Programs / Comments
2016 Requirement / Maintain / Convert / US Lacrosse Required to Join CAPLAX / Westlake, T&C, SSES/Trinity, SAS, St. Gabriel’s will need to require players/coaches to be members
Grandfather (2017) / Maintain / Convert or Fund Bollinger Bolt-on Policy for 2016 / US Lacrosse Required to Join CAPLAX / Policy Cost is $100/program (Covers League)
Grandfather Indefinitely / Maintain / Convert or Fund Bollinger Bolt-on Policy / US Lacrosse Required to Join CAPLAX / Policy Cost is $100/program (Covers League)

CAPLAX Division Renaming Discussion

Issue: Current Naming Convention creates confusion with Elementary being K-4 and Middle School being 5th-8th and is inconsistent with some Program names for their Age/Grade Divisions.

CAPLAX
(2015) / Grades / US Lacrosse
(Age) / Maximum
Age* / US Lacrosse
(Name) / Input 1 / Input 2 / Other
Red (Division I) / 7-8th / U15 / 14 / Seniors / Majors / Seniors (Div I)
Red (Division II) / 5-8th / U15 / 14 / NA / Seniors (Div II)
Blue / 5-6th / U13 / 12 / Juniors / Middies / Juniors
Elementary / 3rd-4th / U11 / 10 / Lightning / Cradlers / Lightning
Elementary / K-2nd / U9 / 8 / Bantam / Scoopers / Bantam

*(as of 31 Aug prior year, per US Lacrosse Guidelines)

Proposal: Establish a naming convention that distinguishes CAPLAX divisions and allows flexibility to accommodate hybrid divisions (e.g. 5-8th).
