Present: Linda Cahill, Terry Gratto, Nancy McCormack, Amy Rutherford, Ellen Symons, Sarah Wickett, Bev Woodcock, Maureen Yearsley

Minutes: Sarah Wickett

Agenda approved with additions (Pilates, and Powerpoint/Home security)

1.  Minutes approved.

2.  Ellen welcomed Linda to the group.

3.  Gallery and Garden Tours – Katie Lyle will check her work schedule to see when she can give a tour of her exhibition at the Union Gallery. The date will likely be Thursday May 25. Ellen will confirm.

There is still no firm date for a tour of Elizabeth Read’s garden. It will probably be during the last week of May or the first two weeks of June.

We also discussed the tour of Harry Symons studio. This event was well received by the 8 people who attended. There was a lot of art to see and Harry also talked about a past installation. Another artist, Lisa Fig, was there to talk about her work as well.

Next Wednesday is the copyright session.

4.  Staff BBQ – Because the original date for the BBQ conflicts with the Principal’s BBQ we have changed the date to June 6. Amy will revise the poster and send it to all staff as soon as possible.

We will have prizes for:

o  Best bad hair

o  Best bed head

o  Most creative use of hair spray or gel

o  Best use of colour or height

Staff will place votes for each category into a box. Sarah will find illustrations of each category for the boxes. Prizes will consist of:

o  Some items from Janet

o  $25 gift certificate to liquor store (from Dye & Durham)

o  Sodexho (Terry is waiting to hear from them)

o  Painting from Harry Symons

o  Items from the campus bookstore (Linda will ask them)

o  Basket of hair products (Linda, Bev, and Sarah will put this together)

Amy will get a jar for the candy prize.

Terry will order a strawberry shortcake with “Summer’s here, let your hair down” written on it.

The HRDST members should arrive to the BBQ at around 11:30 to help set-up.

5.  Strategic Plan – On behalf of the HRDST Ellen will provide feedback on the draft strategic plan at the all staff meeting on May 23rd. Maureen provided some feedback on points 1.3 and 1.5. Both of these are areas where it can be emphasized that the HRDST has already contributed sessions and both the HRDST and other teams/units will continue to promote and enhance these initiatives.

Other members of the team were asked to provide comments to Ellen by the end of the day on Friday.

6.  Other Business:

  1. Pilates – On behalf of the Joint Health and Safety committee Maureen asked whether the HRDST would be willing to co-sponsor a pilates session in September. The group agreed to cover the $6/person cost.
  2. Powerpoint/Home security sessions – These sessions filled up very quickly and staff have been requesting more sessions be offered. Ellen will send an email at the end of the week indicating that waiting lists will be available and the sessions will be offered again in the fall.
  3. Running Room – Amy indicated that Scott Gilbert of the Running Room can do a session on selecting running and walking shoes.

This was our last meeting until the fall.
