Delta Charter School MST
Delta Storm First Lego League Robotics Team
Dear parents of 7th and 8th grade students interested in Robotics,
Delta Charter School will compete in the First Lego League Competition for the Fall 2017 school year. The program is designed for students under the age of 15 to compete in teams with other teams from the surrounding areas as well as at a state, national, and even world level. As a part of the robotics club, students will have the opportunity to hone their skills in designing, programming, and testing a fully functioning robot. Students in this program gain skills in engineering, logical reasoning, and most importantly teaming up with classmates to solve problems. This meaningful activity does require a commitment of time and consistent effort.
Being a member of Robotics Club does not guarantee a spot on the team going to competition. Students must display a desire to compete, a commitment to the team and a willingness to put in the hours required to get everything completed on time. I also require that all students maintain a 2.25 GPA, display positive behaviors in class and in meetings. In order to help cover the cost of supplies, t-shirts and team events, we ask that each student pay $30.00 dues by the third meeting attended. If you are willing to donate more to support the organization, any extra money is appreciated. Students must also sign a contract and have a parent/guardian to sign the contract by the third meeting.
Our first informational meeting will be held Tuesday, August 29th from 3:30-5:00
If a student wants to participate in Vex IQ team and FLL team, they may do so. Mrs. Dale and Mrs. Dawkins will work out a schedule for those students.

FIRST Lego League of Louisiana (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology)
FLL introduces elementary and middle school aged children (9-14 yrs. old) to real-world engineering challenges by building LEGO-based robots to complete tasks on a thematic playing surface. FLL teams, guided by their imaginations and adult coaches, discover exciting career possibilities and, through the process, learn to make positive contributions to society. Students get to design, build, test and program robots using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology; apply real-world math and science concepts; research challenges facing today’s scientists; learn critical thinking, team-building and presentation skills; participate in tournaments and celebrations. On your mark, get set, flow! Drink in the 2017/2018 HYDRO DYNAMICS season and learn all about water-how we find, transport, use or dispose of it. In the 2017/2018 FIRSTLEGO League Challenge, more than 28,000 teams of students age 9 to 16* will make a splash with HYDRO DYNAMICS. What might become possible when we understand what happens to our water?
FIRSTLEGO League challenges kids in over 80 countries to think like scientists and engineers. During the Hydro-Dynamics season, teams will choose and solve a real-world problem in the Project. They will also build, test, and program an autonomous robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS®technology to solve a set of missions in the Robot Game. Throughout their experience, teams will operate under theFIRSTLEGO League signature set ofCore Values, celebrating discovery, teamwork, and Gracious Professionalism®.
