Post Details – Group Leader Chancet Wood

Chancet Wood is a six-bedded unit that provides a respite care service for children and young people who are physically and multiply disabled, aged between 5 and 18 years of age.

Chancet wood is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic person to take on the role of Group Leader within a dynamic and committed staff team. We are looking for at least two years experience in a residential setting and preferably a person with experience of working with disabled young people. This post would suit an experienced Residential Social Worker who feels ready to progress their career and take on extra responsibilities. An understanding of Sheffield City Councils policies and procedures as well as knowledge of current policies specific to children and residential services would be a distinct advantage. The staff at Chancet Wood are committed to working in a non-discriminatory way and an understanding of the issues around disability and discrimination would also be desirable.

The successful candidate will be a member of the senior team and will take a role in the effective management of the unit by taking on specific tasks relating to the running of the unit. They will also be expected to conduct staff supervisions and take a lead role in ensuring a quality service is provided to the children and parents using Chancet Wood. While working on shift the successful candidate will be expected to take on senior responsibilities when required. An NVQ 3 in social care is an essential qualification and NVQ 4 is desirable, and an ability to take on this training is essential.

The role of a Group Leader involves much direct work with children in a team therefore good communication and team-working skills are essential as is the ability to move and handle frail and vulnerable young people. The successful candidate will be expected to meet the individual care needs of disabled children, which will include feeding, toileting and bathing. An ability to develop good professional relations with young people is essential. Some homemaking and domestic skills are also required.
