The Autumn Semester of 2017-2018

Congratulations! Welcome to XiamenUniversity(XMU)! You are admitted to program of Overseas Education College (OEC). Before your arrival, please read this Advice carefully so as to help you apply for admission procedures as soon as possible and arrive at XMU smoothly.

I.Physical Examination

For having a happy and healthy time in China, it’s time to undertake the physical examination! You are recommended to undertake a thorough physical examination in the local regular hospitals. There is a foreigner physical examination form in the files we sent to you. This is one of the forms that you should provide when studying in China and applying for study visa (X1 or X2 Visa) in local Chinese Consulate.

After the examination is completed, the hospital will offer you foreigner physical examination record, X-ray record and blood test record, etc. Please do take good care of these entire original medical reports and bring to China, otherwise you will have to undertake the physical examination in China’s local health institute again.

After you arrive at XMU, we will arrange a recheck on your original medical reports in the hospital. Passing the recheck, you will receive the health certificate issued by Xiamen local health institute which will charge for 60RMB.

If you did not undertake the physical examination in your country and intended to change the visa into residence permit after arriving at XMU, you could also undertake the physical examination in Xiamen Entry-exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, the charge of which is 500RMB.

II.Visa Processing

You are suggested to apply for a visa right after receiving the Admission Notice. Please contact the local Chinese Consulate to confirm the materials required for the application of visa, including the size and number of your photos. In addition, a passport copy as well as the foreigner physical examination form is required, whether there are other documents and certifications are also important information you need to confirm. You can also go to their official website to view the relative messages.

Please bring with you the Admission Notice,Application Form for Foreigners（JW202 form) and other materials required by local consulate ( like photos, passport and foreigner physical examination form, etc.) and apply for the study visa( X1 or X2 visa) in local Chinese Consulate.

You are suggested to apply for the study visa (X1 or X2 visa) to arrive in Xiamen. X1 visa must apply for the residence permit within 30 days after entering China. As a result, to prevent visa expiration, please do not premature entry and register at the college once you arrive at XiamenUniversity. You are recommended to enter China on 17th Sep, 2017.

III.Pick-up and Arrival

Once the visa formalities are completed, please reserve the flight ticket to Xiamen as soon as possible. You are suggested to book the flightwhich is supposed to land in before 3:00 pm to Xiamen on 17th Sep,2017. After the reservation, please do log in the website of OEC,XMU ( to fill in your flight information and people coming with you so as to arrange the pick-up and other service.

If you don’t need the pick-up service, you are suggested to take the taxi to go to Xiang’an Campus，XMU. In order to have smooth communication with the taxi driver, please show the driver the following Arrival Tip.

You could turn the airport staffs for help in XiamenInternationalAirport. You would find lots of taxis outside the airport, the drivers of which would bring you to Xiang’an Campus，XMU smoothly. It will cost you 30 minutes and 100RMB from Xiamen International Airport to Xiang’an Campus，XMU. Please do not forget to request an invoice after getting off.

The average temperature in Xiamen is 21 degree, Xiang’an Campus，XMU has complete living facilities like supermarkets, dinning hall and gymnasium, etc.. You don’t have to bring to much articles of daily use such as thick clothes and quilt.

IV.Payment

After booking the flight to XMU, please pay the registration and tuition fees in the local banks timely. If your study period in XMU is one semester, the sun of money you are supposed to pay is 13400RMB, among which 400RMBis for the registration fee and 13000RMB for tuition fee for one semester. If your study period in XMU is one year, the sun of money you are supposed to pay is 26400RMB, among which 400RMB is for the registration fee and 26000RMB for tuition fee for one year.

If your local banks could not handle the RMB remittance business, the China Bank Account of XMU could accept four foreign currencies (USD, EUR, GBP and JPY) remittance. You could transfer the USD, EUR, GBP or JPY to XMU according to current day’s exchange rate.

Once you completed the payment formalities in local banks, please do scan or take a photo at the bank receipt and log in the website of OEC, XMU to register your payment information, including the amount you paid, the currency, the payment date and the photo or scanned documents of the bank receipt. Please make sure you submit a clear version of document.

After you arrive at XMU and register, please show us the bank receipt, we would help you change in into the uniform invoice of XMU. According to the relative regulations of the Financial Department of XMU, after the semester starts, students who leave the University partway through the semester for personal reasons are not eligible for any refunds of tuition fees.

Some foreign bank cards like VISA or MASTER could at most withdraw 2000RMB every day in Xiamen. Therefore, you are suggested to open a bank card with the Union Pay mark and deposit at least 6000RMB so as to facilitate the payment of accommodation, visa fee and other daily use.

For your convenient life in XMU, please do bring with you around 2000RMB in cash, including some small changes. After arriving at XMU, you could open a local Xiamen bank card in the banks inside the campus and handle the bank card and e-card binding business so as to help bring more convenience for your family to transfer the living expenses.

V.Accommodation

XMU’s international student apartments (with a living room, 2 bathrooms, 4 rooms and 4 balconies) could provide adequate beds and you don’t have to reserve the student bed in advance.

XMU will allocate the accommodation for overseas students. Each room will accept two students. The accommodation fee is 1000RMB each semester, you are supposed to pay the deposit of 1000RMB (will be returned after check-out) before check-in.

The dormitories are equipped with air conditioners, water heaters, mattress, wooden desks and chairs, coffers and network interface, etc.. Professional Property Company will in charge of the corridor cleaning. Securities will be on duty in the dormitory area for 24 hours. Each dormitory is equipped with the network interface of China Telecom and China Mobile, students could open broadband service in the business office near the Jingfeng Canteen, the cost of which is about 40RMB per month.

The International Student Apartments will be open on 17thSep.2017. Please don’t arrive before the date. If you arrive before the date, you could live in the Boxue Hotel on campus which is in Boxue1-2 and the single room will cost 128RMB per day.Tel:0086-592-2888128

VI.Insurance

According to the relative regulations of Chinese Ministry of Education, overseas students who plan to study in China for a whole semester are supposed to buy the overseas Student Group Comprehensive Insurance.

OEC will buy the Accident Insurance for the Self-funded students. For your personal safety and convenient claim, you are suggested to buy the Overseas Student Comprehensive Insurance by yourself. The insurance amount is about 600RMB. If the accident occurs, the staffs from insurance company will assist you to handle the claim procedures.

VII.Registration Procedures

The overseas students of OEC, XMU are supposed toregister on 17th Sep,2017 (Sunday). If you encounter any emergency or problem, please dial the 24-hour duty call 18959286211.

Registration venue: Guoguang 4 Building, International Students Apartment of Xiang’an Campus，XMU

Required documents: passport, Admission Notice, Visa Application Form for Foreigners (JW202), ten 2-inch photos, the original health reports, relative proof of qualifications or HSK certificates,the original bank receipt of tuition payment,two copies of passport,visa&entry stamp.

18 Sep.: Chinese Proficiency Test 19 Sep.:Physical examination

20 Sep.: Publish the class lists; teachers and students meet each other, buy textbooks 21 Sep.: Regular class begins
