CTE Month 2011

Public Service Announcement (PSA) Contest

The purpose of this contest is to promote the profession of career and technical education, help raise awareness of CTE programs and career pathways within Baltimore City Schools and the contributions provided by educators.

Eligibility

Video contest is open to all Baltimore City Public School youth between the ages of 14 - 18. To be eligible, your video submission must develop the theme “Learning Today, Earning Tomorrow.” The maximum running time for each entry is 30 seconds. All entries must be postmarked or hand delivered no later than Friday, January 28, 2011. Each entry will require a separate entry form and should be on a separate CD or DVD. Your entry must be clearly and legibly labeled with the title of the production, name(s) of filmmaker(s), and school name.

Copyrights

It is the responsibility of the entrant to obtain authorization from the creators, sponsors or organizations associated with the development or broadcasting of the contest submissions.

All participants, including producers, actors, musicians, and anyone else whose image or sound is on your submission, must turn in a signed entry form along with the video. Your permission allows us to promote the contest and spread the word on Career and Technology Education through the use of your message. Please have everyone who appears on screen fill out the appropriate form. These forms must be completed for you to receive your prize should you be one of the contest winners. The School/Teacher/etc. information on the entry form is requested - if applicable - so that we can give credit when teachers assign, encourage and/or enable participation in the contest. If you are producing your video on your own, please disregard that part of the entry form.

Judging

We are looking for innovative, creative, and original submissions. Entries should provide the youth perspective on career and technology education, promoting the importance of postsecondary pathways and your future.

All submittals will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Clearly defined message
  • Creativity
  • Originality
  • Youth appeal
  • Overall production values / Technical competence
  • Video and audio quality
  • Clarity of information
  • Presentation effectiveness

A panel of judges will choose the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. The decision of the panel will be final.The decision will on or about February 1, 2011 and the winning entrants will be notified by telephone and/or e mail, the day the decision is announced.

Prizes

Complete list of winners, along with video clip of winning submission will be posted on City School’s website, shown on Ch 77 and distributed to television stations, among others. There will be one (1) first, second, and thirdplace prize awarded.

Conditions

All footage, including music, must be originally created material or you must obtain proper, legal permission to use someone else’s copyrighted material.

Entries will be void if they are incomplete, late, lost, damaged, not able to be viewed due to technical error, or have inappropriate content.

No entries will be returned. All entries become the property of Baltimore City Public Schools. Entrants grant City Schools the right to use their names, photographs, and video submissions for advertising, publicity and promotion purposes, and to edit or make changes to the announcement. By entering this contest, entrants agree to abide by these contest rules and regulations.
