The month of November brings some exciting changes to Lawnton! Please congratulate Miss Matthews who recently got married on October 22! She will now go by Mrs. Lerant. Secondly, Mrs. Perry, first grade teacher, has accepted a new position in the district. She will now be librarian for Middle Paxton Elementary and Mountain View Elementary. We wish her well, but she will be missed. The new teacher will be Miss Sarah Vandine. She comes with lots of experience, and will be a great addition to the Lawnton family!
All visitors must remember to sign in the office upon entrance to the building. This is for the protection of the staff and students. In case of an emergency, this ensures that we know how many people to account for. In addition, interruptions to the classroom are kept to a minimum, allowing for effective instruction to take place. If you wish to observe your child’s classroom, please set up a time with his/her teacher. Please give at least 24 hours notice.
By now, you should have received a conference notice for November 8. Please return them to the classroom teacher with a reply. While visiting with your student’s teacher, feel free to browse the school. Our teachers have been working diligently on Fall educational displays.
Please continue to view our website for classroom and school information. If you haven’t registered your Giant reward’s card, please do so. Our school will receive money to spend on student activities. In addition, Target offers rewards for schools, if you register your card on their website. We will continue to collect box tops as well! Thank you for your continued support!
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to call (558-9430) or email () me.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Bruno

Parent Tips for Developing Language and Literacy in Children
Infants:
Talk and sing to your baby when you change his diaper, give him a bath, feed him lunch, or join him in play.
Help increase your baby’s vocabulary by asking “What’s that?” or “Where’s the dog?” when looking at and enjoying books together.
Toddlers:
Read stories before bedtime. It makes a good transition between active play and rest time.
Take short trips to new places and talk about what is happening around you.
Preschoolers:
Encourage preschool children to carry out steps to written recipes or to look at labels.
Play picture-card games with your child.
Point out words on signs.
Primary grade children:
Continue to read with your child even if he has already learned to read.
Visit the library on a regular basis.
Show children that you read books and magazines for information and enjoyment.

ABC’S
OF EDUCATION / Displays
**************************************************************************
While visiting our school for conferences (November 8) or during American Education Week (November 14-18), please take notice to our classroom fall wall displays all around the school! Teachers analyzed benchmark data and incorporated questions into their displays that would help the students learn those particular skills. Students and teachers will visit the displays on November 1st. This is yet one more way to get the students learning!
/ Education Week - November 14-18
Parents and families are cordially invited to visit our school during American Education Week. Upon entering the school, all you have to do is simply register at the office. If you are staying for lunch, it is important to make your choices before 10:00 AM each day so the office can notify the cafeteria staff. Please be advised that fast food is NOT permitted in the cafeteria.
It is a challenge to keep this week as normal as possible. During the excitement of parents visiting, children have a tendency to forget the teacher has the responsibility to maintain a positive learning environment. We appreciate your help in reaching this goal. Some assistance on your part would include: please do not bring pre-school children; observe the class in action from the vantage areas provided; and please enter and leave the classroom quietly to meet your schedule needs. Please be mindful that this time is not to be used to confer with your child’s teacher.
Thank you for your continual interest and support of our school. We hope your visit during American Education Week, or anytime during the year, will be enjoyable and beneficial!
/ Fall Fling
------

The Fall Fling was a big success! Students painted pumpkins, made scarecrows, roasted marshmallows for S’mores, took hay rides, bobbed for apples on strings, got their hair sprayed different colors, and enjoyed many different foods and drinks. Thank you to all the volunteers for your time and effort. The students had a great time!!
