A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of Jewell Kidd Carr.

WHEREAS, Jewell Kidd Carr was a daughter of the Commonwealth, born on February 21, 1927, the daughter of the late Clarence and Minnie Dixon Kidd; and

WHEREAS, Jewell Kidd Carr was a political leader, a community activist, and a gracious hostess. Mrs. Carr was a devout Democrat who campaigned in state and local elections, an avocation that culminated in her appointment as Chairwoman for the campaign of former Kentucky Governor Martha Layne Collins. A former President of the Rowan County Democratic Women's Club and the Rowan County Board of Elections, she was a Kentucky delegate to the 1984 and 1988 Democratic National Conventions; and

WHEREAS, Jewel Kidd Carr's spirit of activism and community spirit was unbridled. She was recently awarded the distinction of being a 50-year member of the Morehead Women's Club. She was also a member of the Morehead Garden Club and the St. Claire Regional Medical Auxiliary, and she gave much of her time and treasure to University Breckenridge and Morehead State University; and

WHEREAS, Jewel Kidd Carr and her beloved husband of 56 years, Walter W. Carr, entertained often and rarely missed local sporting events. The couple kindly opened their home up to local athletes, one of whom was former New York Giants star Phil Simms. The Carrs' home was a special place to many in the community, and Mrs. Carr was known for celebrating special events with the style for which so many identified her; and

WHEREAS, Jewel Kidd Carr departed this earthly life on April 3, 2013, leaving her family, friends, and community in mourning. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Junior Kidd and Stanley Kidd; her sisters, Irene Luebkeman, Patty McIntosh, and Gladys Moreland; and her son, Mike Carr. She is survived by her devoted husband; her children, Brenda Reeves, Pat Carr, and Cindy Jones; her stepchildren, Susan Thomas, Walter Dennis Carr, and Richard Carr; her sisters, Hazel Sparkman and Charlotte Russell; her special nephew, Johnny Broughton; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate expresses its most profound sense of sorrow and extends its sincerest condolences to the family, friends, and community of Jewel Kidd Carr.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving memory of Jewel Kidd Carr.

Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Senator Walter Blevins, Jr., for delivery to the family.
