Guidelines and Nominations Form

GUIDELINES

The Deaf Australia (NSW) Deaf Community Awards 2015 are an opportunity for Deaf Australia (NSW) and the wider community to honour those who have made a contribution to the Deaf community.

Rules:

  • Any Deaf person living in NSW can be nominated for the “NSW Deaf Person of the Year”, “NSW Deaf Youth of the Year,” “NSW Deaf Senior of the Year,” and “NSW Deaf Employee of the Year”.
  • Any organisation in NSW can be nominated for the “NSW Fair Go” Award.
  • People nominated for the “NSW Deaf Person of the Year” or “NSW Deaf Employee of the Year” must be over 18 years old.
  • People nominated for “NSW Deaf Youth of the Year” must be under 25 years old.
  • People nominated for “NSW Deaf Senior of the Year” must be over 60 years old.
  • Nominations of immediate family (mother, father, brother, sister, son, daughter) will not be accepted.
  • Nominations of Deaf Australia NSW board members will not be accepted.
  • For the category you are nominating in you must use one or more of the criteria to explain why you think the person or organisation you have nominated should win.

Nomination Criteria:

NSW Deaf Employee of the Year

  • Presents a positive image of Deaf people
  • Does research to promote better understanding of the Deaf community, its language and culture
  • Takes action to give Deaf people equal opportunities and equal access
  • Has benefited Deaf people or the Deaf community

NSW Deaf Youth of the Year

  • Develops programs and activities aimed at supporting Deaf youth
  • Supports Deaf people in social and cultural activities
  • Presents a positive image of Deaf people
  • Undertakes research programs to promote better understanding of the Deaf community, its language and culture
  • Establishes successful co-ordination of affirmative action aimed at Deaf people
  • Provides high quality services enabling Deaf people to participate in the community activities
  • In any other way has benefited Deaf people or the Deaf community.

NSW Deaf Senior of the Year

  • Develops programs and activities aimed at supporting Deaf Seniors
  • Supports Deaf people in social and cultural activities
  • Presents a positive image of Deaf people
  • Undertakes research programs to promote better understanding of the Deaf community, its language and culture
  • Establishes successful co-ordination of affirmative action aimed at Deaf people
  • Provides high quality services enabling Deaf people to participate in the community activities
  • In any other way has benefited Deaf people or the Deaf community.

NSW Fair Go Award

  • Takes action to give deaf people a “fair go” (equal opportunities and equal access)
  • Provides excellent services so Deaf people can be involved in community activities, employment, services, or other fields
  • Establishes successful co-ordination of affirmative action aimed at deaf people
  • Gives deaf employees and clients more choices and opportunities
  • Improves access to technology
  • In any other way has benefited deaf people or the Deaf community.

NSW Deaf Person of the Year

  • Supports Deaf people in social and cultural activities
  • Presents a positive image of Deaf people
  • Undertakes research programs to promote better understanding of the Deaf community, its language and culture
  • Takes action to give Deaf people equal opportunities and equal access
  • In any other way has benefited Deaf people or the Deaf community.

Please provide the nominee’s full name, what category they are being nominated for, their contact details in the e-mail. An alternative method of nominating is by filling out the nomination form below.
