Academy is a unique program developed by Polk County Public Schools to give students in grades 4 – 10 who have fallen behind in school, the opportunity, through a specialized curriculum, to make up for lost time with the goal of being able to graduate with their class. ·  What are the current locations of the R.E.A.L. Academy – Currently the R.E.A.L. Academy has locations in Lakeland at the Dwight Smith Center, in Auburndale at Auburndale High School, in Davenport at the Davenport Community Campus, and, for grades 4 & 5, at Gause Academy in Bartow.
·  What curriculum is used? – Students work primarily online through a standards based program called Edgenuity.
·  Are there teachers? Yes. While much of the work is completed online, there is a teacher present to provide support and assistance.
·  How much time can a student make up in the R.E.A.L. Academy? As a self-paced, self-directed program, to some degree this is in the hands of the student. The program is designed however, for a student to be able to complete two years of school within one year.
·  Can work be done from home? Yes. Tests must be taken at school, but assignments and activities can be completed online at home.
·  What happens after a student catches up? When a student gets back to his/her correct grade, the student returns to his/her zoned school.
·  Who is eligible for the program? Motivated students who are 2 or more years behind in school in grades 4 – 10.
·  How do I apply? The application process is online and begins at your zoned school. See a counselor or administrator.
