1Introduction

Axometrics High Order Retardance Viewer Software is designed to perform high order Retardance calculation with known refractive index based on Axometrics AxoStep Imaging Measurement system.

1.1Instrument Files Directory

High Order Retardance Viewer Software should be put into same directory as all Axometrics instrument program files and support files:

C:\AxoStep\Current Version

Do not change directory locations or filenames.

.

2High Order Retardance Viewer

High Order Retardance Viewer Software is used to calculate high order retardance. AxoStep .astp wavelength scan files are used to calculate the high order retardance. Refractive index data is needed to calculate high order retardance using this software.

The main screen of High Order Retardance Viewer Software GUI is shown in the following figure.

2.1Open .astp data

AxoStep .astp wavelength scan files are the input data.

2.1.1Open .astp file

When High Order Retardance Viewer Software is opened, use Open File button or Open File function on Files menu to open .astp file. Since the .astp is large, it takes tens of seconds to open the file usually.

2.1.2Open .astp file from Axostep viewer after measurement

Measured .astp file can be opened automatically, when the wavelength scan is finished using AxoStep Viewer. From the Program Options on AxoStep Viewer Tools menu, choose the High Order Retardance Viewer Path and check Automatically Open High Order Retardance After Spectrum Measurement. User can still view measured images in AxoStep Viewer by checking Continue Opening Spectrum File in AxoStep View.

2.1.3Open .astp file from current Axostep viewer images

High Order Retardance Viewercan be launched from AxoStep Viewer from Toolbar. Add the High Order Retardance Viewer Button on Toolbar from Program Options, as shown below.

2.2High Order Retardance Calculation

2.2.1Select refractive index data

Refractive index data is needed to calculate high order retardance using this software. Refractive index data file .index are Tab-separated data as shown below.

Refractive indices can also be stored or loaded from a, comma delimited (*.csv) file as shown below in notepad and Excel respectively. Note: the header line, “Wavelength,Ne,No”, is not necessary and is only for human readability.

2.2.21D line scan

After select 1D Line Scan, user can draw a line on the image and analyze high order Retardance. The results are shown in the plots on the right.

More options have been added for viewing analyzed data. The new options are Retardance Orientation (º), Retardance Ellipticity, and RAW Total Retardance. Retardance Orientation (º) and Ellipticity are from analyzed data.

2.2.32D Mapping

After selecting 2D Mapping, user can draw a box on the image and analyze high order Retardance. The results are shown in the 2D plots on the right.

More options have been added for viewing data. The new options are Retardance Orientation (º), Retardance Ellipticity, and RAW Total Retardance. Retardance Orientation (º) and Ellipticity are from analyzed data. As before XY cross section shows the data from the 2D graph in 1D form, now it will do the same when Orientation, Ellipticity or RAW Retardance options are selected. Single point graph shows only Retardance (º) by wavelength for the crosshair point; if RAW Total Retardance (º) is selected the data is RAW instead of unwrapped as shown in the image above.

3Edit settings

User can edit some settings from Edit Setting on Edit menu.

3.1Optimization Options

3.2Other options

User can flip the y axis direction of the images and set an OrientationCenter. For example setting the OrientationCenter to 10º, as shown in the image below, will ensure all orientations are between -80º and +100º instead of +/-90º.
