47 years and going strong!!!

NWIRC, an affiliate of the Indiana State Reading Association (ISRA) and the International Reading Association (IRA), is a professional organization of educators, administrators, paraprofessionals, parents, and college students dedicated to these purposes:

* to improve reading instruction through the study of the reading process, stimulation of current research, and encouragement of high educational ideals.

* to promote the development of reading proficiency to the limit of each person’s ability.

* to develop an awareness of the need and importance for reading and fostering the reading habit.

The Hammond Area Reading Council was chartered in January 1970 with a membership of 25. Our current membership is about 100. NWIRC’s dues of $20.00 include membership to the local and state council.
