Description of the walk:

At the Christchurch gates walk straight on into Broadwalk until you come to the water’s edge. Continue your walk to the left passing two cottages on your left. If you are not too fat you can pass the gates at the Botanical Gardens in Rose Lane. About a hundred metres from the gates, on your right, you will find the entrance of the premises of the Botanical Gardens, which are under surveillance (closed circuit tv).

Continue to walk straight on until you come to High Street. Cross the street, have a look at Magdalen College and turn to the left. Pass the corner of Longwall Street and stop before the corner of Queen’s Lane:

Continue walking in the same direction on High street until you come to the corner of Catte Street, where you turn right. On your left you pass St Mary’s and if you continue straight on you will see Radcliffe Camera. After you have passed the building, take a left turn into Brasenose Street. Continue to go straight until you come to Turl Street where you turn right. On your right you will find the entrance of Exeter College. Turn left after the entrance, visit the chapel, go round the green and answer the question:

Leave Exeter College as you came and turn right at Turl Street. Continue until you come to Broad Street. Take a right turn, pass the building of History of Science and pay attention to the name giver of your walk: The Sheldonian Theatre. Continue until you come to a crossing, turn left into Parks Road and pass The King’s Arms. Continue to walk straight on and follow the signs for the Pitt Rivers Museum, which you will find on your right. The entrance is free.

Go in and answer the following questions:

Leave the museum as you came. Cross the street at the King’s Arms and turn into Catte Street . On your left hand you will find the entrance of the world’s most famous library: the Bodleian Library belonging to Oxford University. Pass the gates of the library and BE QUIET!

Assignment 4: Copy the words written on the garter (kousenband) of the Earl of Pembroke, whose statue you will find at the entrance of the library.

Leave the library as you came and turn left until you see an over ground bridge on your right.

Assignment 5: Write down the original name of the Bridge of Sighs and state where it is to be found.

Assignment 6: Have your picture taken under the Bridge of Sighs with you and the bridge in view. Showing this picture at the next checkpoint entitles you to an extra indication.

Just after the bridge take St. Helen’s Passage which you must follow all the way up to the end. A refreshment and hopefully your extra indication will be waiting for you at the Turf Tavern.

Return to the Bridge of Sighs and turn to the right into Queen’s Lane. After the second bend to the right you will find a lot of corbels on the building to your left. One of them is a frog.

Assignment 7: How many corbels are there? Write down your answer in letters.

Continue Queen’s Lane until you return to High Street. Cross the street and turn right until you come to the corner of Magpie Lane. Turn left into Magpie Lane. Pass Merton College on your left and pass the gate that leads into Dead Man’s Walk. Go straight on until you come to Broadwalk again and return to Christchurch College gates, where you will ask your teacher for a stamp.
