Gigha Challenge / 2013

You can either Run, Walk or Cycle the island. Starting from the craft units going first to the North End of the island then South to the South Pier and back to the craft units the course is 11.2 miles. The event will be staggered with the walkers setting off at 11am, runners 1pm and the cyclists at 2.30pm. For health and safety reasons, under 16 year olds are not permitted to take part in the run section of the race, they are however more than welcome to join in the walk or cycle section.

5k Run

Forthose who would rather a shorter route from the craft units to the South Pier and back.

The Gigha Challenge is primarily a fun, non competitive event intended to encourage active participation, however prizes will be awarded to those entrants coming 1st, 2nd & 3rd in each of the categories. Additional prizes may also be made at the judges’ discretion.

All other entrants will receive a t-shirt and medal on crossing the finishing line.

The Isle of Gigha Heritage Trust

Additional money raised from entrance fees will go towards the Isle of Gigha Heritage Trust, the body set up in 2002 to conserve, develop and manage the island on behalf of the islanders. The Trust is a charitable organisation and is responsible for a wide range of activities and attractions on the island such as Achamore Gardens

The challenge provides an opportunity to raise funds for the island and should you wish to help a sponsor form is enclosed and we would very much appreciate your efforts.

Malt Whisky Raffle

We are raffling a fine bottle of malt and tickets will be £1 a ticket which can be bought on the day, this will be drawn in the evening in the Gigha Hotel where a few of us will be found enjoying a celebration drink or two!!

Check-in

All entrants are asked to register or check-in with race organisers at the craft units before and after the race.

Route

From craft units going North to the North End of the Island then South to the South Pier and back to the craft units.

Please note that there will be no parking available at the shop. Please leave your cars at the hotel, behind the craft units or at the ferry car-park.

Roads

Whilst every effort has been made to ensure that there is as little traffic on the roads as possible during the event, there may be vehicles passing at points. Please remember this is a single-track road and keep to the left hand side when allowing vehicles to pass. Beware of the pot-holes!

Toilets

Toilet facilities are available at the hotel and craft workshops.

Water

Water and First Aid points are located at the Shop, South Pier and North End.

Ferry Sailings:

The ferry is a 20 minute crossing from Tayinloan to Gigha

Departs Tayinloan 0900, 1000, 1100, 1200,1400, 1500, 1600, 1700 and 1800

Departs Gigha: 0830, 0930, 1030, 1130, 1230, 1430, 1530, 1630 and 1730
