Lu Edmunds

British Rowing have just announced that Lu Edmunds has been selected to represent Great Britain in the Junior World Championships taking place in Lithuania next month. One of only 6 girl scullers selected, Lu will be in the quad. Lu, everyone is very proud of you and will be wishing you the very best of luck.

Henley Master successes

YCRC had an outstandingly successful Henley Master regatta, coming away with two wins. Leading the way in a straight final were the WE2- of Philippa Press and Karen Williams, who won with a very impressive 5 length lead. The E4+ crew of Hugh Dawick, Michael Porte, Martin Walsh, Neil Paveley and cox Maisie Swindells had three tough races (including against a very strong Molesey crew with two Olympic bronze medallists in it in the semi final), but won all by 1½ lengths.

They are all easy to spot – they are still grinning from ear to ear!

AGM date

The 2017 YCRC AGM will be held on Wednesday 27th September 2017 at 19:30. Everyone is encouraged to come – it is an important event for the Club as it is an opportunity for Officers to present to the membership and for the membership to quiz them, and for the election of Officers for the coming year. I would also urge members to consider standing for election and to talk to the current Officer/post holder about what is involved. I am not intending to stand as Club Secretary and would very much welcome members discussing the role with me (); Anne Homa is not going to stand as Regatta Secretary and would also be very happy to talk to you about the role (). The nomination list will be put up at the top of the stairs in the middle of August.

Dragon Boat Challenge

The Dragon Boat Challenge was a great success and very many thanks to everyone who helped. Over £70,000 was raised for local charities; this is the 17th year that we have supported this and the total amount raised over that time is now over £1,000,000 – quite amazing and it is so important for us as a Club to be seen supporting local events like this.

Bicycle lover wanted!

OK, so your favourite sport is rowing, but we are looking for someone or a couple of people who love tinkering with bikes to help the coaching team. We have coaching bikes that are in dire need of maintenance and tlc – they are not exactly Bianchis, but they are sturdy, stable workhorses that are often used by the coaches. If you know about bikes and would be willing to help, please contact the Boats Officer, Paul Baron on .

Senior taster sessions

Thank you to everyone who has helped at the taster sessions so far, they have all been fully booked and run smoothly with excellent support from existing members. We have a further 2 sessions left to run and will look to run more if we get enough interest so please spread the word if you know anyone who may want to join our competitive squads for the coming year!
