Job Overview:
Reporting to the Environmental and Water Utilities Manager, Department of Engineering, the Wastewater Treatment Plant Supervisor performs a variety of duties that ensure the optimum operating condition of the Wastewater Treatment Plant. The incumbent must have the ability to perform under minimum supervision and perform a wide variety of duties to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and guidance. In order to accomplish this, the operator must closely monitor all activities associated with wastewater treatment, take swift and decisive action to correct situations that may cause non-compliance, and notify/report to upper management any such conditions.
General tasks and duties:
The incumbent will follow established Standard Operating Procedures as described in the Morgan Foods, Inc. Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations Manual for specific task and timelines. However, the following broad tasks are provided as a guide to the general duties required to operate the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP):
- Operate and maintain pumps, valves, blowers, chemical feed equipment, and other related wastewater treatment facility equipment.
- Monitor control systems and respond to process alarms and conditions, and make adjustments to operating parameters as required.
- Perform sampling, testing, and outside agency/laboratory interface to monitor, document and successfully operate the WWTP.
- Review and analyze operating and analytical data to determine proper operating variables for the WWTP.
- Utilize computers and programs to monitor equipment, store sampling results, and make process control decisions.
- Read, analyze and interpret information collected from monitoring equipment and record data as outlined in the SOP.
- Add required process chemicals and monitor/record chemical inventories.
- Maintain and monitor operating records and reports required by the State of Indiana and Morgan Foods’ Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations Manual.
- Perform routine inspections and checks on equipment and request maintenance as required.
- Fill in on off shifts during periods of vacations, absences or emergencies.
- Keep all work areas clean.
- Perform all other duties assigned.
Job Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work alone with minimal direction. The WWTP is staffed at one person per shift.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Must be able to climb ladders and stairs multiple times per shift.
- Must be able to maneuver full drums (weighing approximately 450 lbs) using a drum dolly.
- Must be capable of standing for extended periods.
- Must be able to do repetitive tasks such as shoveling, sweeping and/or mopping.
- Must be able to work outdoors, including in extreme weather conditions.
Skills and Educational Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent required, college degree or equivalent experience preferred
- Certified Indiana Wastewater Treatment Operator
- Intermediate to advanced computer ability
- Microsoft Word and Excel
- Basic chemistry and biology background
- Dependable—able to work extended hours and weekends
