EXAMPLE ESSAY:

My name is Joe Johnson.I am 16 years old.I did not know Noah, but I love to play hockey, just like he did. I would like to attend Pro Ambitions Battle hockey camp in Troy, Michigan. Attending hockey camp will help me to achieve my goal of becoming a professional hockey player. As a professional hockey player, I would like to make a donation back to Noah's Gift fund to help other kids be able to play sports, as well as teach hockey camps and volunteer to work with kids during the summer.

Currently, I am a volunteer for with my local library, reading to children, helping with upkeep of the library and assisting with their Bookmobile program that visits local daycare programs during the summer. I am also a member of Beta Club, helping with local conservation and highway clean up programs as well as food drives and distributions and staffing at our senior citizen activities center. Last year I ran in the Noah’s Gift 5K race, and this year I am excited to also compete in the challenge games. I am asking my friends and family to sponsor me in the race and will get as many pledges as I can.

Playing competitive hockey has helped me to become a more disciplined individual and has kept me out of trouble. I believe playing sports shows kids how to work hard and work together, a lesson that will carry over into their adult lives and help them become productive citizens. Attending this camp will also help me help my current team win more games, thereby assisting my teammates in achieving their goals of getting a college education through hockey scholarships.

Camp costs $1,600 and the deadline to apply for camp is April 30. I currently have my own lawn business, and put aside 50 percent of all my earnings to help fund my dream. I will use this money to cover any remaining portion of the cost, should the Noah’s Gift grant not cover all of it.
