What’s involved?
Support the Land Skills Supervisor in the delivery of training and supervision of tasks for 4 apprentices working towards a Modern Apprenticeship Trees and Timber at Level 2.
What will I be doing?
- Supervising apprentices to complete tasks to a high standard in conjunction with the Land Skills Supervisor and Land Manager
- Plan, organise and deliver rural skills activities to apprentices
- Specific activities may include:
- Assisting with written work for apprenticeships
- Tree felling and pruning
- Stonework
- Vegetation clearance
- Tree planting and protection
- Invasive species removal
What will be expected of you?
- To work with the Land Skills Supervisor to deliver a varied and interesting program to the apprentices
- Support, encourage and motivate the apprentices
- Be positive, professional and enthusiastic about forestry, the landscape and its heritage acting as a role model
- To have a working knowledge of Living Lomonds Landscape Partnership Programme
- Responsible for the Health and Safety of self and apprentices
- Utilise standard risk assessment protocol and clearly document for day to day activities
- To coach and support apprentices on a number of different tasks as agreed with Land Skills Supervisor
- Be open to learning and developing new skills in a forestry and historic landscape environment
- Observe the organisation’s terms and conditions of employment
- Operate in a professional and courteous manner
What experience do I need to have to apply?
Essential / DesirableSkills and Qualifications / Standard Grade pass in English and Maths
Experience of a Level 2 Apprenticeship in a related subject
First Aid at Work certificate
Chainsaw 201, 202 and 203 (CS30 and 31)
PA1 and PA6 / Full clean driving licence (age appropriate)
Specialist

Skills / Knowledge and interest in the Lomond Hills Area and Falkland Estate
Basic working knowledge of Microsoft packages or similar software / Knowledge of Living Lomonds Landscape Partnership Programme

Experience / 12 months experience of working in forestry and estate maintenance setting

Requirements / Enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions
Be in good health and able to undertake the often physically challenging activities required of this type of role; for example, manual handling, walking through densely wooded areas / Some flexibility in working to align to seasonal opportunities may be required
