An Introduction to Salon and Beauty Work
WHY TAKE THIS COURSE?
This First Steps course is an ideal starting point for anyone wishing to study or work in the beauty/retail industry. The course provides information, guidance and advice whilst offering both theory and practical knowledge to give you the skills and help you need to enter the workforce or further training.
WHAT ARE THE KEY TOPICS IT WILL COVER?
Students will be introduced to salon work by looking at the activities and roles within hair and beauty salons e.g. reception duties, trainees and qualified therapists. We will look at communication skills for dealing with clients in person and on the telephone as well as recording client details in salon appointment books. You will learn about salon hygiene and safety. Students will be required to demonstrate skills to keep their work area clean and hazard-free whilst assisting with practical beauty sessions. During the practical sessions students will be performing and assisting with beauty treatments for make-up, facials, skin care and manicures.
WHO WILL THE COURSE SUIT?
This course will suit anyone wishing to gain an insight into the beauty salon industry. No prior experience or knowledge is needed. This course would be suitable for anyone that wishes to progress onto a further qualification course in either Hairdressing or Beauty/Holistic therapies. You must be 19 years old or above to do this course.
IS THERE A QUALIFICATION AT THE END OF THE COURSE?
No. There are no formal assessments but you will each be given an Individual Learning Plan on which you will find key objectives for the course. You will be asked if you have any of your own personal learning objectives and your tutor will try to accommodate these topics if at all possible. We will ask you to review your learning to make sure that everything on the course is meeting your expectations. You will receive a Certificate of Attendance which details the topics you have covered.
