Job Title:Assistant to Senior Dementia

Centre Worker – Beckenham

Hours:30hrs + alternate Saturdays

Responsible to:Senior Dementia Centre Worker

Job Summary:

To cover in the Senior’s absence; assist by undertaking some client assessments, be responsible for some staff supervision; cover delegated tasks that may include: admin duties; oversee and co-ordinate the Activities & events programme; volunteers co-ordination; Health & Safety; COSHH; transport duties if required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To understand the full range of tasks undertaken by the Senior Dementia Centre worker in order to provide effective cover.
  • To carry out some new client assessments, by agreement with the Senior Dementia Centre worker
  • To be responsible for some staff supervision identifying training needs; complete annual appraisals and ensure that staff support needs are met
  • To involve all staff in preparing and participating in the Activities programme, including group facilitation in line with their skills & knowledge as part of a planned programme of care. To oversee the implementation of the activities programme & co-ordinate events.
  • To assist with specific, delegated admin tasks, including co-ordinating recruitment and support of volunteers.
  • To and act as ‘key worker’ to a group of clients and attend/lead Team Mtgs. as required.
  • To maintain accurate and appropriate client records, and ensure that client needs are identified & that Care Plans are current and reviewed by superviseeson a regular basis.
  • To take appropriateaction in an emergency in accordance with MindCare’s policies and procedures.
  • To perform care tasks including washing, toileting and feeding where appropriate.
  • To collect, list and safely store medication required during the day. To ensure that where required, clients are prompted to take medication.
  • To communicate with carers and pass on messages, providing reassurance as necessary and reporting back any necessary instructions or information to the Senior Dementia Centre worker.
  • To be responsible for ensuring the safety and well being of service users at all times

  • Participate in and actively contribute to individual supervision, training and team meetings; attend all staff meetings and organisational events as required
  • Work flexibly, being prepared to perform other duties commensurate with the role which may include new areas of operation following consultation
  • Work alongside and ensure active service user and carer participation in all aspects of work including design, implementation and monitoring of activities.
