November 2015 Chronicle

THANK YOU TO THE CHAMPIONS SUNRISE ROTARY CLUB

The Champions Sunrise Rotary Club is sponsoring Pedaling to Success at Blackshear Elementary this fall semester. The program is designed to promote better attendance and exemplary grades. Two deserving students from our school (one boy and one girl) will be the recipients of these bikes. In order to be eligible for the drawing, students must have perfect attendance (two absences or less) in the first semester and maintain a “B” average or better during the same time period. It is the hope of The Champions Sunrise Rotary Club that students will take this opportunity to work hard to be in attendance and earn exemplary grades to have a chance to win one of these wonderful bicycles. Good luck to all our students!

BLACKSHEAR COOKIE DOUGH FUNDRAISER/PICKUP DATE

Cookie dough fundraiser was a huge success. THANK YOU to all who participated.

Cookie dough pickup will be on Tuesday, November 3rd from 3:30-6:00 pm in the gym.

KLEIN ISD TRUSTEE ELECTION

Klein ISD Trustee Election is on November 3rd. Please check your local newspaper for polling locations.

BREAKFAST TIMES

Breakfast is served from 7:45 am until 8:05 am. Students wishing to eat breakfast at school MUST be in line for breakfast by 8:05 am. Reminder—the tardy bell rings at 8:20 am.

BIRTHDAY SNACKS

Parents who elect to purchase and provide a birthday treat on their child’s birthday, must complete the request forms. Forms are available in our front office. Once the forms are completed and returned to the school, the school will need one week to process the request (please plan ahead, some items from Klein Food Service Department are not available with one week notice). If you have questions regarding birthday treats, please refer to the school student handbook or call the school.

PICTURES

Individual make-up pictures are scheduled for Tuesday, December 1st.

ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES

The following attendance procedures are set and we solicit your support in implementing them.

School begins at 8:15 a.m. Students arriving after 8:20 a.m. will be considered tardy and must get a tardy slip from the office to be admitted into the classroom. At 8:20 all car rider, walker, and bike rider entrances will be locked and students will need to enter the school through the front door.

Student attendance is taken at 9:45 a.m. Students present at that time will be counted present for the day. This is the official time for determining student attendance information. Calling Absentees - In order to assure that students arrive safely at school, we call parents when students are absent. Parents should call the attendance office between the hours of 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. at 832-375-7600 (Press 3 for Attendance then Press 1 to Report Absence) on the first day of a student’s absence. When the student returns to school after an absence, the student is required to bring a written excuse to the homeroom teacher within 5 days.

If for any reason you should need to pick up your child during the school day, please send a note to the homeroom teacher. When you come to pick up your child you will come to the office to sign him/her out. Identification will be required. The office staff will go to the class to get your child for you.

CUSTODY ISSUES

Please assist us in the handling of custody related issues. It is the responsibility of the parents to provide the principal a certified copy of the court order affecting any other person’s right to their children. Should you have any question, please call Mary Ellen Sedlacek at 832-375-7610.

RIGHTS OF POSSESSORY CONSERVATOR

The school district does not have the obligation to contact the managing conservator when the possessory conservator requests permission to review the child’s records and/or consult with the teacher.

Any conflicts between the two parents should be handled outside the school and we should be advised of any limitations of contact that might ultimately be established in the divorce decree: i.e., a visit with the child exclusive of a review of the records, etc.

EMAIL AND VOICE MESSAGES

All teachers have voice mail and email communication tools available to communicate with you. We encourage you to use these tools to communicate with your child’s teacher. Please note that teachers will check their email and voice mail during non-instruction time. Every attempt will be made to respond to messages within 24 hours. Do not leave emergency or transportation messages that are critical for that day. Please contact the front office to leave these messages.

Email Tip: Please put KISD: and your child’s name (KISD: Jane Doe) in the subject line of the email. This will help teachers identify your message as an important message. Teachers are advised not to open emails they can’t identify in some manner. Email is the preferred form of communication over voice mail.

RETURNING TO CAMPUS AFTER HOURS

Due to security and safety concerns we will not allow students and parents to return to the classroom after 4:00 p.m. Students who need to get items from the classroom before 4:00 p.m. must check in at the front office before going to the classroom. Custodial staff or After School Program staff will not be able to admit students or parents to the classroom area.

SCHOOL TARDIES

Arriving at school prior to the start of school is important for your child to have a productive day of learning. Your assistance is needed to have your child at school by 8:05 a.m. every morning. The tardy bell rings at 8:20 a.m., this is the time all students are to be in their classrooms ready for learning. Morning arrival time for students is from 7:45 a.m. until 8:05 a.m.

Students who are tardy to school an excessive number of times will have their conduct grade lowered by one letter. This will impact awards given each reporting period.

SCHOOL STORE

The Blackshear School Store is open on Tuesday and Thursday to sell school supplies to parents and students. It is open from 7:45 until 8:05 a.m.
