One girl is staying with her mother & attending her Jr.college (12th std) at Lohgaon. Her mother have stopped the profession & works in sasoon gen. hospital as a patient attendant. Also she has started a tea stall for the patients & their relatives. She has hired a room in Yerawada, Pune & is able to take care of her daughter therefore we decided to send her back to her mother. The girl & her younger brother helps their mother for the tea stall. At present her younger sister is staying at Neehar & studying in 7th std.

Sad demise of one girl's mother was happened. We through our dispensary in red light area use to give her medical facilities. She was HIV+ve . Her last wish was to go in her own village & stay with her brothers & sisters. We arranged to send her to the village with her daughter. The mother is no more now but the relatives are ready to take care of this girl. She (girl) keeps regular contact with us through letter & telephone.

One mother took her daughter for holidays. She went to Aurangabad but she could not arrange to send her daughter back to Neehar because she don't have enough money for their travel.

The girl somehow manage to contact us on telephone. We coordinated with the Police Dept. & C W C ( child welfare committe) at Aurangabad & then they arrange to send her to Neehar.

Health & Nutrition – We provid good nutritious food at Neehar. The menu for the day is chalked out & prepared accordingly for e.g.

Breakfast – Porridge ( Ragi Or soji)

Lunch – Chapatti, Vegetable / leafy vegetable, Dal, Rice

Tiffin – Chapatti & Vegetable. School also provide veg rice or nutritious khichadi to the children up to 7th std.

Snacks – Fruit / Biscuits/deats /groundnut + jiggery / Poha / Upama / Idli / Shira etc.

Dinner – Bhakari / Chapatti, Vegetable, Dal/leafy Veg, Rice, Curd or buttermilk.

We prepare ceremonious food on various occasions like Padwa, Diwali, Holi, Ganpati, Christmas etc. Well wishers, sympathizers etc. give ceremonious food or snacks for the celebration of their children's birthdays, or in the memory of their beloveds.

All the children are keeping good health. Our medical officer visits once in a week at Neehar. We took the children to local private clinic, govt. or P M C hospital for emergencies & specialized treatment. All the record related to health is kept at Neehar.

Except minor illness, no major illness is seen in children during this six months.

17/1/07 1st dose of Hepatitis B & missals is given to all the children & staff at Neehar.

Midterm examination of the children is over now. Progress of the children in Balwadi – std 7th is good. Some of them are rank holders in their respective class. Girls studying in 8th to 10th std. performance is not very good. Shailatai Malusare, a tution teacher is taking extra effort to teach the children in their weak subjects like Maths, English & Science. Also we send them for extra coaching class in their school. Children are also working hard & preparing for the annual examination now. S.S.C. examinations will start in March 2008. Then the examinations of the other children will start. One girl will appear for the 10th (SSC) examination through NOS(National Open School) one of the care taker is also appearing for the examination.

Children participated in the gathering of their school. Some children participated in inter school sports competition, such as running, long jump, High jump' Kho-kho, kabbaddi etc.

2children participated in Late Divakar Mimicry competition. On following topics –

1)  Shee ! Kai hi aaichi Katkat

2)  Sainik Mi Honar

2girls from 8th std. have appeared for the elementary examination in drawing.

Most of the children took part in some or the other competition in the Ganesh Festival at Neehar. The competitions were -

* clay modeling

* drawing, Mehendi, Rangoli

* quiz on general knowledge

* Musical chair .... etc.

Volunteers / caretakers also took part in the competition.

Children from std. 5th to 9th enjoy learning basic skills in computers. Now they can
draw play game make their own file on computer. They try to type English words
on it. Shailatai said that children enjoy learning grammar on computer.

Special Events –

* 1/7/07 – volunteers of ALIENS SPORTS ASSOCIATION organize a one day

sports camp for children. Children enjoyed all the novel games very much.

* 8th July o7 – This year we celebrated Neehar's 18th anniversary on 8th July 07.

A famous personality of the children's theater Shri Prakash Parkhi was the chief guest of the function. Everybody in the hall enjoyed his one act called play 'Nakalanagari' children performed cultural programme on the occasion. Prizes were distributed to the rank holders as well as winners in various competitions held during last year.

* 15th August 07 – Celebration of Independence day.

* 18th August 07 – Nagapanchami. Smt.Jayashree Shinde, teacher gave talk on importance of snakes & why we celebrate Nagpanchami. A new care taker Balika Yemle taught songs on Nagpanchami.

* 25, 26 August 07 – 35 children between 4 to 12 age group participated in the children's camp organized by Dept. of women & child welfare, Maharashtra State. It was a camp for all the institutionalized children in Pune city.

* 2 boys won the prizes in sports competition in this camp.

* 28th August 07 – Celebration of Rakhi Pournima.

* 4th September 07 – Dahihandi

* 15th September 07 to 22nd Spetember 07 – Ganesh Festival. Children did all the decoration for the celebration. Various competitions was organized during the festival.

* 29th October 07 – Vijaya Dashmi

* 8th to 11th November 07 – Diwali. Many visitors visited Neehar for Diwali

* 24th November 07 – Shri. Milind Kulkarni & his colleagues from Eaton India Engineering Pvt.Ltd. spend a day with the children. Children enjoyed the day playing with them.

* 25th November 07 – Alliance sports group organized various games for the children.

* 26th November 07 – Children went for the Mela in Vadgaon Shinde village. They enjoyed a ride in Merry go round.

* 29/11/07 – A married girl from Neehar delivered a baby girl. She stays in Lohgaon & happily taking care of her new born baby.

* 25th December 07 – Celebration of Christmas.

* 15th January 08 – Makar Sankrant

* 26th January 08 – Republic day. Some children participated in the gathering of the school. Also some gave small speech on Independence, sang songs about our Nation.

A stall of artificial Jewelry prepared at Neehar, was put up in the exhibition organized by krushi Panan Vikas. 2 young girls from Neehar handled the stall for 4 days. Vanchit Vikas Nirmal Ranwara magazine, oil painted, knitted scarf & other handicrafts by the children was also kept in the stall. Response was very good.

Knitting, Tailoring, Artificial Jewelry & Other -

One of the caretaker & one inmate is getting Training in Knitting. She

attend regular class of Daptardar & Co, in Pune. Knitting machine at Neehar is purchased from them. Now they can knit simple weaving designed scarf, shawl, mats, TV or Table cover etc. The girl is also taught tailoring, artificial jewelry at Neehar. Occasionally with the participation of older children greeting cards, lanterns & other decorative articles are made at Neehar.

Women in Sabala Mahila Kendra, Latur are trained in artificial
jewelry by the inmate of Neehar.

About repairs & painting of Neehar –

·  3 halls at Neehar are recently painted. These are the study & training halls.

·  All the windows of 'C' type building where children stay are repaired. We use fiber glass for the windows so that chances of breaking glass & injuring will be lesser. With this good light is maintained in the rooms.

·  Painting of outdoor play equipments. (Sponsored by Eton India Pvt. Ltd.)

Gardening –

·  Neehar is located in rocky area. We always face scarcity of water at Neehar. Still we are able to grow some vegetable, fruits & flowers at Neehar. Children help in gardening. All the vegetable, fruits & flowers are used at Neehar for the children.

Routine of Neehar is going on very well. We are trying our level best for the all round development of the children at Neehar. Also we have some future plans in our mind regarding the physical amenities at Neehar & we are trying hard to generate funds for that for e.g.

·  A permanent wall + wire compound is very essential because of the new constructions & increasing hustle & bustle in the area.

·  Development of the play ground

·  Repairs, Painting of the remaining building at Neehar

·  New construction of open stage for children

·  Toilet block for the building sponsored by Akutai Kalyani Charitable Trust, Pune

Challenges –

* Bad road from Lohgaon to Neehar

* Unavailability of the vehicle

* Scarcity of water

* Existing education system in the school

Our Glory –
X-student of Neehar now studying in S.Y.BA. won many prizes in his college. He is elected as UR of his college. He is active member of NSS. This year he has received following prizes/Awards –
* 1st prize in colloquial competition in Pune
* 2nd prize in colloquial competition at the state level
* Complementary Prize in poster competition
* Complementary Prize for best event manager of the year. His college (Modern college) received 3rd prize for event management
* Received 'Charitrya Chhatra Puraskar' from Charitrya Pratishthan, Pune.
Also his academic performance is very good. He received 80% marks in midterm examination.
He is learning German as an extra language. He is active member of one drama group. He write script for street plays & also act in street plays. His street play group of the college won the 1st prize in inter college street play competition.
