Assessment Guidance
Learning Outcome 1
1.1 Different equipment: to include
(a) bike type
(b) riding gear
(c) equipment.
Learning Outcome 2
2.2 Personal safety check: to include
(a) adjusting helmet
(b) layers of clothing (depending on the weather) no loose clothing near pedals / chains
(c) correct size gloves.
Learning Outcome 3
3.1 Suitable: to suit the individual or group, taking into consideration skills, abilities and fitness.
Learning Outcome 4
4.1 Techniques: to include
(a) attack Position
(b) cornering
(c) gears
(d) effective pedalling
(e) braking - control
(f) control at low speed
(g) control at high speed
(h) uphill – cadence (leg rotation)
(i) downhill – (attack position further back, heels down)
4.2 Variety of trails: a minimum of two different trails but can be all the same level.
4.3 Cycle maintenance to include:
(a) how to fix a puncture
(b) how to fix a dropped chain.
Evidence Requirements
Evidence of practical ability must be demonstrated in Learning Outcome 6.
