Reporting to the Director of Physical Plant Operations, the Assistant Director – Facilities Services is responsible for code compliance, maintenance and processes that provide excellent facilities, grounds, and campus-wide services. The Assistant Director acts and advocates for safe, reliable, high performing, and cost effective facilities and institutional processes that meet the needs of the University community. S/he identifies and addresses issues of concern with all constituents while maximizing assigned resources.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: management of overall operations and assigned personnel in the areas of Carpentry, Painting, Locksmith, Grounds, Masonry, Automotive Shop and Mail Processing Center.The successful candidate will develop and manage operational and projectbudgets as well as contracts; prepare cost and time estimatesand manage all aspects of assigned projects; evaluate, analyze and implement improvements for campus wide services and develop metrics to assess performance against established benchmarks. The Assistant Director will serve on capital project teams and other committees and work collaboratively with all constituents including governmental and regulatory agencies. S/hewill ensure a safe working environment; coordinate and implement training programs and ensure compliance with established standard and codes related to facilities services.

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required; Master’s degree in Business Administration or related field preferred. A minimum of five (5) years of building trades’ supervisory experience in an institutional setting including direct management of employees and projects and demonstratedexperience developing and managing projects, project budgets and contracts are required.Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and be available to respond to emergency situations 24 hours/7days. A driver’s license valid in the state of New Jersey is required as well. Management experience within civil service and/or a union environment is preferred.
