Nioka Bush Camp is open by advanced booking only. Book online at or by contacting the Parks Victoria Information Centre on 13 1963. Nioka Bush Camp may be closed at any time on a day or period of extreme fire risk.

History

ThesiteofNiokaBushCampdatesbacktotheAboriginaltribe-theWurundjeri-baluk.ThewordNiokameans‘GreenHill’.

In1837theareawassettledbysquatterswhotookadvantageofthevastbasaltplainstograzecattleandsheep.Laterthelandwasusedforotheragriculture.

GoldwasminedinthePlentyGorgeregioninthe1850sand1860s.Thereisstillequipmentscatteredthroughoutthearea.

NiokaBushCampwasformerlyascoutcamp.In1994itbecamethecampgrounditistoday,managedbyParksVictoriatobeenjoyedbyall.

NiokaBushCamphasawiderangeoffacilitiesfromwoodfiredbarbecuestoafullyequippedkitchen.Amenitiesincludetoilets,hotshowers,tentsites(non-powered),bunkhouseaccommodation,water,firealarm,telephoneandalargeassemblyhall.
