BACTERIA - WANTED POSTER

Project Description/Abstract: Students will research one bacterial pathogen and produce a “Wanted Poster”. Poster is to be on 8.5” X 11” Paper (standard computer paper).

Procedure: Students have two periods in the library to research their assigned pathogen. Any additional time needed for research or production of the poster is to be done on their own time.

Due: October 29, 2012

Include:

A.  Mug Shot – photo of the electron micrograph or microscopic picture and a photo representation of the bacteria in disguise

B.  Description – including shape, optimal temperature and pH, etc.

C.  Organism’s M.O. – how the organism attacks and spreads to other humans

D.  Victims – most common victims to prey upon (what type of population of humans)

E.  Hide Out of the Culprit – where it is most likely to be found

F.  Injury – most common injury done to victim (human)

G.  Is it Considered Armed and Dangerous? – rate the degree of damage and #’s of victims (humans)

*The more dangerous it is, the higher the reward should be!

H.  Defense – most effective weapons against the germ

I.  Any other identifying characteristics – any other facts that would help identify the bacteria (like tattoos)

Evaluation:

·  All information must be in order (A-I)!!! --- Visually separate sections

·  All information must be in YOUR own words, NO PLAGIARISM or CUTTING and PASTING!!!! - You should have clear, concise summaries of information for each section --- not full paragraphs!! --- Remember, it’s a “Wanted Poster”

·  Keep a bibliography --- you should use no less than THREE sources of information that are reputable –-- put bibliography on back of the poster

·  Write scientific names correctly

·  Make sure your poster is NEAT and EASY to read!!! --- Type and double-space information if you don’t have neat handwriting
