Fall 2015 HBCU College Tour Application

Each year Lansing Community College (LCC) sponsors a select group of students on a tour of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) as a part of the Lansing Black College Tour. Participants learn about the rich history of HBCU institutions in addition to becoming aware of admissions requirements and transfer opportunities.

During the Fall 2015 Black College Tour, students will visit the following institutions:

§  Coppin State University

§  Morgan State University

§  Bowie State University

§  University of Maryland Eastern Shore

§  Norfolk State University

§  Hampton University

§  Virginia State University

§  Virginia Union University

§  Howard University

In order to be eligible for attending the HBCU college tour, you must meet the following criteria:

·  Score at least a reading level 4 and writing level 4 on the LCC Placement test

·  Submit the name and contact information of two personal references. One reference should be a teacher/advisor.

·  Write an essay of no more than 500 words explaining why you should be selected to attend the HBCU College Tour. Discuss your major and career aspirations. Discuss how attending the HBCU College Tour would help you learn about various transfer opportunities.

·  Commit to participating in the HBCU Club after the completion of the HBCU College Tour.

Selected participants will leave Lansing, MI on October 26, 2015 and return on October 30, 2015. Funding is provided by LCC for chosen participants. This trip is chaperoned and the consumption of alcohol and tobacco products is prohibited.

All completed applications are due by September 28, 2015. Applications can be submitted to Tonjala Eaton via email at or turned into the Academic Advising Desk at LCC.
