Dear Colleague
Following a period of consultation with local communities many expressed concern around hate crime and how health responds to it. As a result of this Leicestershire Partnership Trust, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and Leicestershire Police are working together to address these concerns by improving awareness and health’s response to victims of hate crime.
Research shows that hate crime has both physical and mental health impacts and yet historically health hasn’t played a key role in the ongoing support of victims and witnesses of hate crime. We recognise that many of you have had direct experience or supported others that have been affected by hate crime.
We would therefore like to invite you to an engagement event where a local theatre company will be used during the afternoon to help illustrate the issues and capture people’s thoughts on how improvements can be made across different areas of health. These include GP’s, East Midlands Ambulance Service, the Emergency Department at the LRI, Learning Disability Services and Community Mental Health Teams.
The event will take place at the Y Theatre, 7 East Street, Leicester,
LE1 6EY on Thursday 7th March 2013, 12pm starting with lunch, until 4pm.
Your organisations involvement along with those people you support is crucial and we would like to have a good mix of both professionals and service users in helping us shape existing services to better meet the needs of local people.
In order to secure your place at this exciting event please contact us on or by telephone 0116 295 7667. Please let us know if you have any access, dietary or other special requirements.
Yours sincerely
Leon
