These instructions will take you through the steps needed to replace a faulty or damaged N64 Joystick. If at any time during the installation of your replacement N64 Joystick you require any assistance or simply would like to ask a question or two please feel free to contact us at . We are always ready and happy to help our customers. The following items are needed:
1 N64 Joystick Replacement Part
1 Philips Head Screw Driver
A clean work space
2-3 minutes of time
Step 1
First flip your Nintendo 64 controller over so that the back side is facing towards you. Afterwards locate the 9 screws that are pictured below.
Once you locate these screws remove them. Afterwards simply remove the case bottom from the case top by lifting upwards. If you are finding it difficult to separate the two case sections this indicates that one or more of the screws are not fully unscrewed.
Step 2
Now that the case bottom is off your controller’s insides should look like the picture below. Locate the three screws located below in the picture and unscrew them. Do not unscrew the black screw located below under the “no” symbol. Next unsnap the “Z” button board from the joystick. It is the circuit board below covered by the blue rubber part. The rubber part might be a different color in your controller. It is labeled below. Afterwards simply lift up the N64 joystick. Next unplug the joystick from the port. To do so simply grasp both sides of the plug and firmly pull them apart.
After the old joystick is removed simply plug in the replacement joystick and reassembly the unit. After you have reassembled the unit your joystick should be working like new again. If problems are still occurring with your joystick please see the troubleshooting section at the end of this guide or send us an email at
