CULTURE CASE STUDY : COUNTRY TRI-FOLD

Each pairwill choose a country of the world and create a country tri-fold..

This tri-fold will not be your typical pamphlet, but rather it will emphasize how the culture and history of an area has been impacted by their physical geography/ environment.

A sign- up sheet will be posted in each class. Within a class only one pair may do a particular country. No doubling up on countries. Please choose a country that will provide adequate information for research. YOU WILL BE DOING MODERN TIMES (21ST CENTURY ) FOR YOUR TRI-FOLD.

CONTENT CRITERIA FOR TRI-FOLD

You will be given a rubric which represents the criteria for grading. Please look over the rubric carefully so you understand the expectations for the project. Remember if you are not here the day the project is due make sure the project gets to me!

Each TRI-FOLD must contain the following information:

  1. You can purchase paper for your tri-fold at Carlson’s in Wheaton. It should be 18” BY 24” in size!
  2. You will fold this into a tri-fold. You will have a front, 2 inside parts-right and left, a center and then the back.
  3. On the front cover you must have a map of your country, its flag and name.
  4. On the inside left and right covers you will put the components of physical geography:
  5. landforms: major mountains, deserts, valleys, plains , etc
  6. bodies of water: major river(s) , seas, lakes
  7. climate: major climate types and characteristics of that (those) climate(s)
  8. vegetation: types of trees- deciduous, coniferous, grasses, etc., NOT CROPS!
  9. Animals: any special animals indigenous ( native ) to your country
  10. On the inside middle section of your tri-fold you will place the following characteristics of culture:
  11. type of government and names of its important leaders
  12. economy: major typesof economic activities – manufacturing ( kinds)

farming ( major crops), mining, etc.

  1. religion: major religion of country and its major beliefs, influence of

environment or history on religion

  1. education: level obtained by most residents, explain system
  2. language: major language and its origins
  3. architecture: type of buildings, materials used in construction
  4. technology: communication and transportation systems

h. unique traditions, customs or characteristics of the cultur

  1. On the back of the tri-fold you will place the summary :

********EACH PERSON MUST HAVE A SUMMARY AND AN ATTACHED WORKS CITED.*****************

Explain how the country’s culture and history have been influenced by its physical geography. Make connections where this place is in the world and how Its environment affected it in terms of the seven characteristics of culture.

For example; the Bedouins of North Africa are Islamic, nomadic and use camels. What connections can you relate between environment and culture in this example?

  1. On the back cover you will place the Works Cited( Use MLA format)

WRITTEN CRITERIA FOR TRI-FOLD

  1. Information for parts 4 and 5 need to be in paragraph form. One to two paragraphs each are necessary for the physical geography and characteristics of culture portion. Be through and accurate.
  1. Summary must be 2 paragraphs. The most important part is to make connections.
  1. This this info for the tri-fold must be typed and include 1 color picture for each of the 5 physical geography components. For the characteristics of culture have 4 pictures, 1 picture for their religion, language, one type of the economy, architecture. DO NOT USE CLIP ART BUT ACTUAL PICTURES FROM THE COUNTRY!
  1. A Works cited must be included. It must be typed and in MLA

format. If you do not remember how to do this go to my staff page where I have uploaded info from the library. The LLC site also has a tutorial site.You will be using Noodle Tools.
