Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement

Removal Procedure


  1. Remove the three screws from the washer solvent container.
  2. Rotate the washer solvent container toward the front of the vehicle to position it out of the way.

  3. Remove the wiper system module cover.

Wiper Module Cover Replacement

Removal Procedure
  1. Open the hood.
  2. Pull back on the hood rear weather-strip.
  3. Pull the windshield wiper system module cover up and out in order to release the retainers from the pinchweld flange.
  4. Remove the windshield wiper system module cover from the engine compartment.
  5. Remove the crank arm from the wiper motor. Refer to Wiper Motor Crank Arm Replacement .

Wiper Motor Crank Arm Replacement

Removal Procedure


  1. Remove the drive link from the wiper motor crank arm.
  2. Loosen the two screws.
  3. Remove the wiper linkage from the wiper motor crank arm.
  1. Remove the crank arm cover and seal.
  2. Remove the wiper motor crank arm from the wiper motor.
  3. Loosen the screw.
  4. Tap on the screw with a soft-faced mallet while holding up on the crank arm until the crank arm loosens from the wiper motor.
  5. Remove the screw and the crank arm from the wiper motor.
  1. Disconnect the electrical connector from the wiper motor.
  2. Remove the three screws and the wiper motor from the wiper drive system module.

Installation Procedure

Notice:Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.


  1. Install the wiper motor on the wiper drive system module with three screws.

Tighten
Tighten the three screws to 7N·m (62lbin).

  1. Connect the electrical connector to the wiper motor.
  2. Install the crank arm on the wiper motor. Refer to Wiper Motor Crank Arm Replacement
Installation Procedure


  1. Install the crank arm on the wiper motor.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ACCY position.
  3. Set the wiper switch to PULSE position. The wiper motor should be operating.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to OFF when the wiper motor is in the innerwipe position.

Important:Do not rotate the wiper motor shaft during the installation of the crank arm.

  1. Install the crank arm on the wiper motor while maintaining a 4-8mm (0.157- 0.315in) gap between the V-grove in the wiper motor crank arm and the tab.

Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the screw.

Tighten
Tighten the screw to 14-17N·m (124-150lbin).

  1. Install the crank arm cover and seal.

  2. Check the gap between the crank arm and tab. If the gap is not 4-8mm (0.157- 0.315in), remove the crank arm and repeat installation steps.
  3. Install the drive link on the crank arm.
  4. Tighten the two drive link screws.

Tighten
Tighten the two screws to 5N·m (44lbin).

  1. Install the wiper system module cover. Refer to Wiper Module Cover Replacement
  2. Operate the wipers and check for proper operation.
