The purpose of this role isto serve the patient and support and advise other healthcare professionals regarding their use of, and other contact with instrumentation in the field of Paediatric Cardiac clinical technology i.e. in special investigation units, intensive care and theatre areas of hospitals.
LIST OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties of the post include but are not limited to the following, and are carried out in accordance with NMCH’s Policies and Procedures:
- Performance of investigative procedures including:
- preparation and calibration of equipment.
- preparation and instruction of patients.
- performance of the actual investigation
- editing (i.e. assessment of validation of results)
- calculation of test data and preparation of reports for/and interpretations
- performance of quality control procedures.
- Performance of corrective and therapeutic invasive and non-invasive service to patients in conjunction with a registered medical practitioner
- Performance of preventive maintenance and calibration of equipment
- Development of medical equipment and systems as well as software
- Evaluation of equipment for clinical physiological measurement and treatment
- Selection of equipment for clinical and physiological measurement and treatment
- Drawing up of specifications for equipment
- Approval of selected equipment during the buying cycle
- Supervision of equipment control, safety and maintenance programs and systems
- To integrate and coordinate cardiology service with other departments in the institution
- Supervision of activities of junior Clinical Technologists, including performance appraisals
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- National Diploma or equivalent relevant qualification
- Registration with HPCSA as a Clinical Technologist - Cardiology
- Minimum of 5 years appropriate experience in the Cardiology profession after registration with HPCSA
- In addition, a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Clinical Technologist
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, TRAINING AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
- Technical skills in echocardiography, cardio-pulmonary exercise and stress testing.
