Dr. Srinivasan Chinnapaiyan receivedhis Ph.D. (2012) in Biochemistry-Endocrinology from the University of Madras, Chennai, India. He was awarded Junior Research Fellowship (2008-2010) and Senior Research Fellowship (2010-2011) inDepartment of Science and Technology(DST), India, duringhisPh.D. He moved to the Prague (2012-2013) as a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Experimental Medicine, Department of Molecular Neurophysiology, Czech Republic. Hereceivedthe Edu-GLIA (PITN-GA-2009-237956) award, an Initial Training Network funded by European Commission under the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) (2012-2013), France. Heworked on DEHP, impairs the insulin signaling and leads to insulin resistance. Avoidance of DEHP may be useful for the prevention of type II diabetes. Moreover, he worked in calcium signaling/imaging and homeostasis in magnocellular neurons and terminals in arginine vasopressin (AVP) and oxytocin (OT) transgenic rat. Currently, he is doing as Postdoctoral Research Associate with Dr. Hoshang Unwalla, Department of Immunology, Florida International University (FIU), USA. His current research predominantly focus on mucociliary dysfunction in HIV and smoked substance abuse and the pathophysiological mechanisms that lead to MCC suppression in people living with HIV who also smoke tobacco or abuse illicit drugs. β2-agonists mediated MCC is attenuated in chronic airway diseases (COPD /asthma)and smokers, due to TGF-β mediated suppression of CFTR biogenesis and function. Nevertheless, inhibiting TGF-β signaling can restore CFTR function. He published several quality research papers in peer reviewed scientific journals and presented his work in many national & international scientific conferences. Heis the member of national & international scientific organizations including SRBCE and SPNM.
