Nursery Practitioner

(Level 3)

  • Reports to the supervisor/manager.
  • The Nursery Practitioner will fulfil the role of Nursery Assistant while taking on the responsibility of the Keyworker role to named children and maintain, update the appropriate observations, learning journals and other relevant records.
  • The Nursery Practitioner’s role is to support the supervisor/manager in providing a stimulating and varied program of play and ensuring the safety and well being of the children. In order to achieve this the Practitioner will:
  • Refer to the plans to bring additional resources into the room as required. Everyone is to help so the children are fully supervised during the session.
  • A firm understanding and experience of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Welfare Requirements and how these are put into practice
  • A thorough understanding of safeguarding children and the child protection policy and procedure.
  • During the session ensure the activities/amenities are supervised in accordance to the job description of the Nursery Assistant.
  • Keep up to date with all paperwork relating to key children for example; weekly observations; summaries; next steps; parent meetings; two year old progress checks; settling in forms; transition forms and any other paperwork to comply with Ofsted regulations and the settings policy.
  • Contribute to; weekly planning; medium term planning; outdoor planning plus any further planning to comply with Ofsted regulations and the settings policy.
  • Make sure weekly focus activities are shared out between all staff members.
  • Listen to, encourage, enable, stimulate and ensure the safe keeping of the children, encourage parental support.
  • Attend meetings and training courses as requested by management. Take part in special events, parties, outings and visits which may take place outside working hours, as part of their commitment to the setting.
  • Advise the management of any matter requiring attention immediately, such as concerns about a child, equipment needing repair or replacement and any issues regarding health and safety. Everyone takes responsibility for health and safety issues and must be aware of the environment and children/adults in the setting at all times.
  • Be aware and follow all the setting’s policies and procedures as found in the staff information/policies and procedures file.
  • Keep complete confidentiality of any information regarding the children, their families or staff.
