Job Title:Coaching Development Officer (maternity cover)

Salary:£18,000 - £21,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Fixed Term:Minimum 9 month contract

Job Purpose:

To implement Active Gloucestershire’s Coaching Delivery Plan and work with National Governing Bodies of Sport to increase participation in sport and physical activity in Gloucestershire.

Key Tasks

  1. To manage the development, introduction, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of Active Gloucestershire’s Coaching Delivery Plan.
  1. To work in partnership with Sport England, sportscoachUK and with Active Gloucestershire staff to develop and implement an annual Coaching Delivery Plan for Gloucestershire that reflectsthe requirements of NGBs and identified local need.
  1. To manage a data management system that has the capacity to record contact and qualification details in line with national recommendations and acts as a tool to support CPD requirements.
  1. To manage the recruitment of local,active and qualified coaches and support them to register on-line with the CSP utilising and / or linking with the agreed National Data Management System.
  1. To provide NGB’s and their coaches with a mechanism by which they can receive local support to help facilitate the deployment of their paid / voluntary coaches in a range of coaching settings including schools, local authority and national programmes.
  1. To embed nationally endorsed Minimum Standards for deployment in coaching within the operation of the CSN, particularly within school, local authority and national programme settings.
  1. Record, monitor and evaluate work including establishing and updating relevant records and the production of regular newsletter articles, case studies and impact reports.
  1. Attend and contribute at appropriate working groups, forums, courses, conferences and other events as directed.
  1. To act as a resource and provide regular support to Active Gloucestershire staff on matters to do with the development of coaching and coaches.
  1. To work with other Active Gloucestershire staff to facilitate, assist and support staff to provide, develop and extend coaching opportunities for people with a disability.
  1. Act as a Relationship Manger and support National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGB’s) to achieve local targets within their Whole Sport Plans.
  1. To attend and contribute at appropriate training events, working groups, forums, courses, conferences and other events as directed.
  1. Meet with line manager on a regular basis, to review progress towards agreed objectives, providing her/him with verbal and written reports as required.
  1. Together with the line manager, identify personal training development needs and undertake training and development relevant to the post.
  1. Be responsible for implementing all Active Gloucestershire’s Policies and Procedures including Active Gloucestershire’s Safeguarding Policy and Procedures.
  1. Be a positive role model at all times and to abide by Active Gloucestershire’s code of conduct and maintain a fair and equitable approach to coaching at all times regardless of race, gender, religion or disability.

A qualification related to coaching / 
Further and / or Higher Education qualification in a related field e.g. sport / coaching / leisure / recreation / physical education / business management

A tutoring qualification / 
Good literacy, numeracy, communication and ICT skills (minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent) / 

Knowledge

Significant previous experience of working in a sports / coaching development environment. (Suggested minimum of 3 years coaching / sports development) / 
Experience of developing multi-agency partnerships with sports and / or other organisations at a county and regional level / 
Experience of planning, implementing and managing projects and associated resources / 
Experience of developing and/or using monitoring and evaluation systems in sport / 
Experience of recruiting, employing, deploying and developing coaches / 
Experience of writing successful funding bids / 
Experience of working with county and regional National Governing Bodies / 
Experience of implementing research programmes to inform decision making on projects / programmes / 
Knowledge of the different government funded programmes in relation to coaching (e.g. Sportivate, School Games) / 

Skills / Qualities

An understanding of the challenges facing coaches and coach employing/deploying organisations / 
An understanding of coaching and coach development within the context of National Governing Bodies, Local Authorities, education institutes and key stakeholders
(Or knowledge of the coach education and development systems across sports) / 
Good relationship management skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate with key partners / 
Excellent personal organisational skills and ability to prioritise to meet deadlines / 
Good IT skills and ability to use a range of different IT programmes effectively / 
Evidence of skills in marketing and communication / 
