Professional Profile

An enthusiastic, hard working and dedicated documentary cameraman and film-maker, I am the only UK finalist to be selected from over 34000 world wide applicants for the 2006 Animal Planet 'Unearthed' series. Being skilled in underwater, aerial and night filming including the use of infrared cameras this makes me highly adaptable for various filming productions. I have successfully taken on subjects including pop, reality TV shows and corporate/ charitable films to complement my wildlife filming. I am also proficient in the use of Final Cut Pro editing programmes and am always keen to take on new challenges. I always maintain a professional attitude to my work and have the patience, discipline and adaptability to produce the highest quality footage that is needed for today’s markets. I interact well with other members of the production team as well as being able to work alone on my own initiative. Having demonstrated the highest levels of motivation to successfully meet the tightest of deadlines and budgets I am unfazed with working long and unsocial hours in the most difficult of conditions. As a fully qualified aircraft engineer, I am inventive and use my sound electrical and mechanical knowledge to successfully develop solutions to production problems with minimum cost. Having a desire to succeed I have attended a variety of courses and have a broad knowledge of producing, directing, camerawork, lighting and editing skills.

My show-reel can be seen at and a selection of short films can be seen on You Tube under wildfilmbadgerman.

Filming Summary

Shark Night. Commissioned by National Geographic.Second cameraman and assistant producer

Produced by 'Off the Fence' this challenging 3 week shoot took place in difficult conditions at sea with limited resources in the Mozambique Channel. Not only did I successfully carry out my duties as second cameraman assisting in the preparation of cameras and equipment, shooting underwater and setting up of the underwater lights, I also successfully modified and repaired the broken lighting generator that was essential for the shoot. This was achieved by adapting the use of the limited amount of parts that were available on board the ship.

Credited film

Wildscreen festival 2008. Cameraman, mixing director, remote camera operator and runner.

As a hard working and enthusiastic volunteer for this week long festival I not only carried out runner duties but received high praise when I became mixing director and cameraman for the live debates including the main debate with David Attenborough, King Carlos of Spain, James Lovelock and head of Google John Hank. This was broadcast live to an audience of over 600 top film professionals.

Unearthed2006 Four part one hour Animal Planet series-

Having submitted a home made DVD I successfully competed against 34000 entrants to earn a place on this prestigious programme. As one of the 6 finalists to be chosen to be trained professionally in wildlife filming, I took part in an intensive 2 week programme followed by a week on my own when I had to create and make a world wide broadcast quality film. As a dedicated and cooperative member of the team my energetic and perceptive abilities allowed me to efficiently achieve this goal while at the same time my honest and helpful manner forged deep professional friendships and associations. Using patient and logical thinking I was able to get amazing close up shots of this remarkable and elusive animal which enabled me to create this broadcast quality film.

A wildlife blueprint for developers Commissioned by the Sussex Badger Trust.

This influential film was shown at the Hayward's Heath building inquiry and directly altered the planning application of a major building project. Produced, filmed and edited by myself it clearly demonstrated the need for wildlife corridors to be added to the application so that new homeowners could co exist with wildlife with minimum conflict through this careful planning.

National Coast Watch Produced, filmed and edited by myself.

This charitable film directly helped to raise £30,000 for the restoration of the Newhaven Coast Watch tower. This was a challenging film to direct and edit as the nominated interviewee was uncomfortable in front of the camera. Using calm questioning I tactfully obtained the answers that were needed to underline the main points and as a result I was able to produced a well constructed and logical film.

M & M records Cameraman and editor.

Often working late into the night I filmed and edited pop videos to promote the many artists for this independent record company. Filming live gigs as well as studio sessions I used many special effects to enhance the performance both on the shoot and in the editing studio.

Independent films. I have filmed and produced a variety of independently commissioned films both for sale in shops and for promotional purposes. These include, 'A Badgers Tale' a moving story about a family of badgers being evicted from their sett which was entered in the Sheffield doc festival,'Bentley Wildfowl Centre' a 20 minute film showing some of the fascinating wildfowl at this stately house and ITV News clip about badger baiting.
