A strong hospital is the cornerstone of any community. The Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation is committed to providing the community with the highest quality of medical care and treatment to those in need. This is done in large part through the charitable gifts of individuals who share this same vision.
QHC Trenton Memorial was completed in 1951 through the generosity of the community as a tribute to those who served and gave their lives for their country during World War II.
We continue to rely on community support to expand and improve facilities, to acquire new technology, to replace equipment and to provide seed funding for innovative new programs. In turn, our community will depend upon Quinte Healthcare - Trenton Memorial Hospital for excellent medical care for their loved-ones and themselves.
The Cornerstone Society
Individuals and families who make planned gifts and endowments to the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation will become members of “The Cornerstone Society”; an honoured group of caring people recognized for their commitment to QH - Trenton Memorial Hospital and the community.
As a member of The Cornerstone Society, you will be recognized with a special place on our Donor Recognition Wall at the hospital upon receipt of your gift. You will receive our Hospital and Foundation reports, newsletters, and other communications with news on our Planned Giving Program. In addition, you will receive special invitations to Hospital and Foundation events and a special pin to identify you as an honoured member of “The Cornerstone Society”.
There are a variety of options for planned gifts that could provide tax advantages today and in the future for you and your heirs. By leaving a future gift to the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation you enrich the quality of life for everyone who needs medical service in the future. Leaving your legacy means you will leave an impact on your Hospital and your community forever. Since tax legislation is subject to change by the government, consultation with your financial advisor is highly recommended.
Gift of Bequest
A bequest in your will is the most common way to make a planned gift. Designating the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation as a beneficiary in your will is a direct way for you to help others in your community. Your gift by bequest may be cash, RRSP, securities or other properties.
Gift of Endowment
Gifts to the Endowment Fund provide a lasting legacy. An endowment is a financial gift, which provides a never-ending source of income to the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation. An Endowment Fund is actively invested. The investment income is annually drawn by the Foundation and given to the Hospital, while the principal amount remains untouched.
Gift of Property
A donation of personal, recreational or commercial property is another way of making a gift. The Foundation will issue a tax receipt for the fair market value of your gift. Actual receipt of the gift by the Foundation can be deferred allowing you to enjoy any income or other benefit of the property during your lifetime.
Gift of Life Insurance
Another way of making a significant gift to the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation is through a life insurance policy – a gift of an existing life insurance policy does not interfere with your primary assets and does not impact on your will as it will pass independently. The simplest method is to make the Foundation the beneficiary of a policy, to which you pay the monthly premiums and receive an income tax recept for annually. Life insurance provides a way to give with your heart.
Gift of Annuity
With an annuity, the income from your gift will be paid to you (or your spouse) during your lifetime(s) and thereafter the capital remaining can be used by the Foundation. This would allow you to make a significant gift of capital yet continue to receive income during your lifetime and tax advantages.
Gift of Trusts
You may wish to establish a trust fund with your gift. A trust allows you to assign interest income to your loved ones during their lifetimes. Upon your death and that of any beneficiaries, the capital is transferred to the Hospital. Income may be directed to a particular area of the Hospital or left to the discretion of the Foundation Board for determining its use.
We know that planned giving information may seem confusing at first and so you may wish to seek counsel. It is advisable to seek the help and expertise of your lawyer, financial planner or accountant to choose the options and arrangements best suited to your individual circumstances.
