JOB DESCRIPTION –Transition (year 3) teacher

Windlesham House School, set in 60 acres on the West Sussex South Downs, is one of the country’s leading IAPS co-educational boarding and day prepschools for children aged 4 to 13.We currently have over 380 pupils on roll including the Pre-Prep; over 200 of the children in the Prep school are full boarders.

Currently there are two forms in Transition. The majority move up into this year group from our pre-prep school.As one of the form teachers, you will work alongside a number of specialist teachers to deliver a truly broad and balanced education to these young people.

1)Responsible To:

The Transition teacherreports to the Heads of English and Maths and other Heads of Department as appropriate.

2)Post Holder’sResponsibilities:

Responsibilities include:

  • Teach a full timetable of lessons with a particular emphasis on the core subjects of English and Maths.
  • Liaise closely with the Head of Learning development where pupils need extra support.
  • Ensure medium term and short term planning is undertaken in accordance with the school policy.
  • Work closely with other staff to ensure continuity and progression.
  • Ensure that the range of abilities among children is catered for by planned differentiated activities.
  • Ensure monitoring, recording, assessment and reporting are undertaken in accordance with the school policies.
  • Mark work appropriately and as immediately as possible in accordance with the departmental marking policies, giving individual feedback and encouragement whenever possible.
  • Responsible for the pastoral care of the children in the class and ensuring good personal relationships are fostered between the children themselves and with the teacher.
  • Lunch daily with the children and monitor lunchtime behaviour.
  • Ensure that the classroom provides a stimulating and interesting learning environment.
  • Be responsible for the organisation of all classroom resources ensuring they are accessible to children as appropriate.
  • Meet with parents as required and foster good professional relationships and communication with parents.
  • Attend parents' evenings and school functions as required.
  • Attend staff/curriculum meetings including occasional whole school meetings.
  • Be prepared to attend INSETS and undertake continuous professional development.
