Overview:
Our 2013-2014 Marching Band Season is only 3 months away and we are beginning to put together our group! It should prove to be a fun and exciting season. This packet contains information on the “Schedule” for the upcoming year as well as commonly asked questions about Marching Band. This year is also a trip year for our band and we will be going to DISNEYWORLD from April 9th – 13th to perform and enjoy the various parks.

What is Marching Band?
Marching Band is a group of 7th – 12th grade students made up of Musicians and Color Guard members. Westmont’s Marching Band performs for local parades, all Westmont High School Football games, competitions, festivals, and other special events.
What are the commitment obligations?
After a few summer practices, Marching Band officially begins with Band Camp two weeks before school. This year, Band Camp will run from Monday, August 12th – Friday, August 23rd . Our season runs from August through the first week in November. In addition to the performances found on the attached schedule, we have weekly practices from 5:30PM-8:00PM every Tuesday and Thursday evening once the season begins.
What is Band Camp anyway?
Band Camp is roughly two weeks of time in which we learn our halftime performance show for the upcoming year. This is where we memorize our music, routines, and drill in preparation for our show. Our camp is held at Westmont High School and runs from 8:30AM-4:00PM.
Is Marching Band expensive? Will I have to fundraise?
Aside from the cost of your shoes, there are no expenses for Marching Band. We do ask that everyone participate in one mandatory fundraiser per season. In addition, individual fundraisers are offered for those who wish to go on the Marching Band trips, or to put towards their Wildwood trip if they want to participate in Indoor Groups. The Disney trip may be paid for out of pocket, fundraised for, or a combination of the two.
How is Marching Band related to groups like Indoor Color Guard and Indoor Percussion?
Although you do not need to be in Marching Band to join an Indoor Ensemble it is encouraged as many of the basic skills needed for Indoor are obtained during the Outdoor season. The Indoor season begins in December following the Marching Band season. (There will be an informational meeting in November)
