NFCCA Meeting
October 11, 2017
1. Welcome and Introductions
NFCCA Vice President Ed Levy opened the meeting and attendees introduced themselves.
2. NFCCA nominations and election
The following nominations were made, seconded, and subsequently approved by the NFCCA members:

3. Postmaster presentation
Gabriel Hamilton, Silver Spring Postmaster, discussed post office operations and how mail is sorted by address in Gaithersburg and delivered to the local post office. He is aware of problems occurring in the neighborhood with letters being delivered to the wrong address. He is working with letter carriers to improve the culture and increase accurate deliveries. He stressed that letter carriers are the “last line” to ensure accuracy and are supposed to double-check their packets by reading the street address before delivery to each house. He encouraged individuals to inform him by email of any mis-delivered mail at .
The post office also has introduced a service called Informed Delivery that notifies households about incoming mail by imaging each piece and sending an email with attachments. This can help individuals ensure that they are receiving the correct mail or identify a potential mis-delivery.
Mr. Hamilton also discussed the search for a replacement site for the 16th St. post office which needs relocation as a result of Purple Line construction.
He also responded to concerns raised about wet mail, mis-delivery, and the scarcity of parking at the Four Corners post office. A suggestion was made to work with Safeway to allow parking in that lot.
4. Legislator and candidate presentations
Charlotte Crutchfield and Marlin Jenkins who are both candidates for the Maryland House of Delegates, District 19 introduced themselves and made short remarks.
Marice Morales, Delegate, District 19, provided an update about the homeowners tax credit and the seniors tax credit as well as the state match for contributions to a 529 college savings account.
Julie Tagen, Chief of Staff for Representative Jamie Raskin discussed efforts in the U.S. Congress to enact health care, CHIP reauthorization,disaster relief, and tax legislation. Krista Burton, Director of Outreach in the Rockville District Office of Congressman Raskin, covered the application process for consideration by the various U.S. service academies as well as constituent services in the Rockville office.
5. NFCCA Bylaws presentation
Sondra Katz discussed the changes made in the updated NFCCA bylaws. NFCCA members present voted to adopt the bylaws.
6. Treasurer’s Report
NFCCA Treasurer Sondra Katz reported that the NFCCA has $16,086.13 in its accounts--$6,158.52 in checking and $9,927.61 in savings. At this time for the year 2017-2018, dues have been paid by 37 out of 1,485 households in the neighborhood.
7. Other business
Laura Hussey presented the Good Neighbor award to Jim Zepp for his tireless activities on behalf of the Four Corners community. She also described how community members can send information to acknowledge special efforts made by individuals to help their neighbors for publication in the community newsletter.
Sam Salisbury-Jones discussed the new social media presence that NFCCA has on Twitter and Facebook.
