Atticus for a Weekend

As you have noticed, Atticus is our moral guidepost throughout the novel. He teaches his children, the townspeople and the reader’s lessons he feels are important. Your task for the weekend is to adopt one of Atticus’ viewpoints/philosophies and behave accordingly. For example, you can look at someone’s situation through his/her eyes instead of your own for understanding. Basically, try to have integrity or be tolerant. Then, you are going to write two paragraphs explaining what you did and then reflecting on the affect of your actions.

Requirements:

·  Choose one of Atticus’ beliefs to adopt and record the quote/passage this belief originated.

·  Behave according to that belief in at least one circumstance/situation.

·  Reflect on the success/difficulty you had behaving that way.

·  Write two paragraphs – one explaining what belief you adopted and another recording/explaining your reflection.

·  Your paragraphs should have organization, details and elaboration, but they do not need to be highlighted for this assignment.

·  You need to create an outline.

Rubric:

·  _____ 5 points for the belief. The belief needs to be one Atticus preached and be

significant in our understanding of what kind a person or father Atticus is.

·  _____ 20 points for the written assignment. The paragraphs need to be organized

and need to clearly articulate and explain what belief you adopted and how it went. Explain to me the successes and difficulties you had adopting this behavior and explain WHY you believe you had these successes and difficulties. You can explain why in regards to our time period, the practicality of the belief, how the belief fits in with your personality, etc.
