Meet Me at the Movies

Entelechy Arts is a participatory arts company based in South East London. Entelechy works with people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to produce high quality theatre, music, dance and video events and performances.

Entelechy are looking for volunteers for a new Deptford based project: Meet Me at the Movies This new exciting project will be an extension of the work of Meet Me at the Albany, a weekly arts programme for over 60s.

Meet Me at the Movies Film Club aims to create new spaces and opportunities for people to meet, socialise and enjoy watching and learning about films.

The film club will meet twice a month and include a diverse mix of older (over 60) participants and volunteers of all ages, who share a love of film. Screenings will take place in a number of locations around Deptford and New Cross. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in film and wanting to get involved in their local community on an exciting programme of film events.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Helping set up and clear down the sessions.
  • Maintaining a warm; friendly and safe atmosphere during events.
  • Enabling older participants engage with the sessions.
  • Working with other volunteers and participants to identify and select a wide range of films to be included in the film programme.
  • Helping plan film screenings; sharing ideas and knowledge around film.
  • Enabling older participants share their ideas around film and possible screening ideas.
  • During the film screenings support participants’ access needs.
  • Work as a member of the team to create a warm welcoming environment for all
  • help with refreshments
  • Working with a team of volunteers and older participants to produce successful film screenings.
  • Helping to create a space outside of everyday life where people can explore new ideas and new ways of being together through film.

Benefits

The sessions will provide volunteers with extensive experience of working with older people and programming film screenings meeting new people from the area.

All volunteers will have an induction session before the project and will also be the opportunity for training throughout the project to develop volunteers skills inline with the project aims . There will on-going check in sessions with the volunteer coordinator, to help cater the volunteer experience to each volunteers specific interests and passions.

As a volunteer for Meet Me at the Movies, volunteers will be introduced to an extensive network of community members and creatives passionate about art participatory practice for social change. As a volunteer you will also have the opportunity to get involved if you are interested, in other volunteer opportunities linked to the Meet Me at the Movies. This will include other Meet Me at projects around Deptford; The Albany projects and volunteer reading groups and committees connected to Entelechy projects.

Volunteers will be reimbursed travel expenses and food will provide for any lunchtime events.

Please note that volunteers will need to apply for an Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check. We can support you in this process.
