(1)  Product name or title of material.

(2)  Product description (generic classification).

(3)  Manufacturer's stock number and date of manufacture.

(4)  Contents by volume, for pigment and vehicle constituents.

(5)  Thinning instructions.

(6)  Application instructions.

(7)  Color name and number.

(8)  Handling instructions and precautions.

(9)  VOC content.

b.  Store materials not in use in tightly covered containers in a well-ventilated area at a minimum ambient temperature of 45 deg F. Maintain storage containers in a clean condition, free of foreign materials and residue.

(1)  Protect from freezing. Keep storage area neat and orderly. Remove oily rags and waste daily.

1.5  PROJECT CONDITIONS

1.5.1.  Temperature Limitations

a.  Apply stains only when temperatures of surfaces to be stained and the surrounding air are between 50 deg F and 90 deg F for latex-based stain.

1.5.2.  Weather Limitations

a.  Do not apply stain in snow, rain, fog, or mist; when relative humidity exceeds 85 percent; when temperatures are less than 5 deg F above the dew point; or to damp or wet surfaces.

(1)  Allow wet surfaces to dry thoroughly and attain temperature and conditions specified before starting or continuing with coating operation.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1  MANUFACTURERS

BasisofDesign Products: To establish the significant qualities related to type, function, dimension, inservice performance, physical properties, appearance, and other characteristics for purposes of evaluating comparable products of other manufacturers, a specific manufacturer's product is named and accompanied by the words "basis of design," including make or model number or other designation. Subject to compliance with requirements, provide either the named products or equal products.

2.2  EXTERIOR CONCRETE STAIN MATERIALS, GENERAL

2.2.1.  Stain-Material Quality

a.  Provide manufacturer's best-quality stain material of the various stain types specified that are factory formulated and recommended by manufacturer for application indicated. Stain-material containers not displaying manufacturer's product identification will not be acceptable.

2.2.2.  Proprietary Names

a.  Use of manufacturer's proprietary product names to designate colors or materials is not intended to imply that products named are required to be used to the exclusion of equivalent products of other manufacturers. Furnish manufacturer's material data and certificates of performance for proposed substitutions.

2.3  EXTERIOR CONCRETE STAIN PRODUCTS

2.3.1.  Acrylic Penetrating Pigmented Stain

a.  Factory-formulated modified acrylic concrete stain applied at spreading rate recommended by manufacturer.

b.  Colors: As indicated

2.3.2.  Basis-of-Design Product: United Coatings.

a.  Canyon Tone Stain W.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1  EXAMINATION

3.1.1.  General

a.  Examine substrates, areas, and conditions, with Applicator present, for compliance with requirements for stain application. Surfaces to be stained must be thoroughly dry before stains are applied.

(1)  Proceed with stain application only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

(2)  Start of application will be construed as Applicator's acceptance of surfaces and conditions.

3.1.2.  Coordination of Work

a.  Review other Sections in which coatings are provided to ensure compatibility of the total system for various substrates.

3.2  PREPARATION

3.2.1.  General

a.  Remove hardware and hardware accessories, plates, machined surfaces, lighting fixtures, and similar items already installed that are not to be stained. If removal is impractical or impossible because of size or weight of item, provide surface-applied protection before surface preparation and staining.

(1)  After completing staining operations, reinstall items removed using workers skilled in trades involved.

3.2.2.  Surface Preparation

a.  Clean and prepare surfaces to be stained according to manufacturer's written instructions for each particular substrate condition and as specified.

(1)  Prepare concrete surfaces to be stained. Remove dust, dirt, grease, oils, and release agents. Roughen as required to remove glaze. If hardeners or sealers have been used to improve curing, use mechanical methods of surface preparation.

(a)  Use abrasive blast-cleaning methods if recommended by stain manufacturer.

(b)  Determine moisture content of surfaces by performing appropriate tests. Do not stain surfaces if moisture content exceeds that permitted in manufacturer's written instructions.

3.2.3.  Mixing

a.  Mix and prepare stains according to manufacturer's written instructions. Stir stain thoroughly before applying and frequently during application to maintain color consistency.

(1)  Maintain containers used in mixing and application in a clean condition, free of foreign materials and residue.

(2)  Stir material before application to produce a mixture of uniform density. Stir as required during application. Do not stir surface film into material. If necessary, remove surface film and then strain material before using.

3.3  APPLICATION

3.3.1.  Minimum Spreading Rate

a.  Apply stain at manufacturer's recommended spreading rate to ensure proper penetration. Use applicators and techniques best suited for substrate and type of stain material being applied.

(1)  Do not apply stain on surfaces that are not sufficiently dry. Ensure that each coat is dry before applying succeeding coat.

3.3.2.  Apply Stain Evenly With Spray

a.  Use airless or conventional air-atomizing high-pressure spraying equipment with orifice size as recommended by stain manufacturer. Ensure that an adequate amount of stain is applied to surface.

3.4  CLEANING

3.4.1.  Cleanup
