Support Surface Initiative Scholarship

ANNOUNCEMENT

The National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel is pleased to announce a scholarship for participation in the Support Surface Standards Initiative (S3I) for a two year period commencing in spring 2017 through the fall 2019.

The purpose of this two-year scholarship is to encourage participation in S3I by clinicians so that the standards development process has the benefit of clinical expertise and perspective. The scholarship funds are to be used for reimbursement of travel expenses associated with attending biannual meetings. The scholarship funds of $2,000 annually is to be used for travel and expenses. All travel arrangements should be made through the appropriate NPUAP travel service. After each meeting other expenses will be submitted for reimbursement on specified forms, Expenses that exceed the scholarship amount will not be reimbursed. The successful applicant may apply for two additional years of support.

The applicant is expected to attend approximately four meetings of the Support Surface Standards Initiative, actively participate during the meetings and provide clinical insights relevant to bed-side clinical practice as related to support surface therapy. Research in the field of support surface selection, implementation, and performance will be encouraged during or after this period of commitment.

Scholarship applications must be received by October 1, 2016. The NPUAP Research committee will review applications and the successful applicant will be notified December 1, 2016.

INSTRUCTIONS

Candidates must be active in a clinical role or supervision of clinicians that provide bedside care for individuals “at risk” or requiring pressure ulcer treatment with therapeutic support surfaces:

Requirements:

  1. The candidate holds a regular, full time position as a clinician at a facility or corporation that provides direct patient care;
  2. Five (5) years of wound care experience or certified as a wound care clinician;
  3. Have the commitment of his/her departmental manager as evidenced by a letter of support to be submitted with the application. The letter should confirm agreement to allow for protected time to attend the meetings, it should acknowledge the significance of this project, and it should confirm the applicant’s qualifications. Absence of this letter will exclude consideration of the applicant.

3. Letter from the applicant describing their interest in the Support Surface Standard Initiative and should be included with the application in an electronic format

4. Letter of support from the employer. The letter should be includedwith the applicationin an electronic format.
