FROM THE EDITOR

After months of people asking for Club Decals, I finally got around to finding out where they were printed before and had 100 printed up. If you are a member of Mustangs of East Texas and don’t have a window sticker, see me at the next meeting. I will have some with me. Fly your colors proudly!

Last month’s meeting ended with a cruise turned surf! I have never seen this happen before. We left Traditions, tops down, looking good and by the time we got to the loop it looked like a storm coming in. Long lights help us guys with convertibles! We headed up toward the square downtown and by the time we got to Bergfield we were getting hit with drops of rain that were 2 inch splats on the windshield. On around the square and headed back south it all set in. By the time we got back to the loop water was up to the curbs on each side. I guess it is needless to say we didn’t hang out in the parking lot in front of Marble Slab afterward!

This newsletter will be pretty much devoted to Tulsa, the Mid America Shelby & Ford Powered Meet. Those of us that got to attend had a great weekend, the rest of you really missed out. Make plans to try to join us next year. This was our second year to attend, this year we got to spend more time at the race tracks and around the action. It was worth the trip just for the cruise up there in the caravan and the Thursday night All Ford Cruise Night.

Last weekend Chad entered his Dark Shadow Gray 03 GT and my Autumn Orange 97 GT Vert in a little show at Clicks Billiards. I was tied up doing home repairs so he handled both of them. Chad took home Best of Show and brought me a 1st Place. He just wanted everyone to know he beat me in a car show. This coming weekend is the Phil Clark Show in Rusk, we will see if he can do it again!

Craig Chesley sent me this picture. He was returning from the Kansas City MCA show when he saw this sign on US 69 going through Big Cabin, OK. It was one of 3 posted on each end of town, approximately 40 feet long and 10 feet tall placed on 18 wheeler trailers. He also saw the local policeman giving a ticket in the same area.

I hope to see all of you at the meeting this month, it is July 5th at Traditions Restaurant. Hopefully the weather will cooperate better for our cruise afterward! Bring your Mustang, lets show Tyler a real parade!

FORD TO SETTLE LAWSUITS

Dearborn, Michigan. Ford has agreed to settle lawsuits filed against it due to cracking intake manifolds on certain 1996-2001 4.6L engines. The engines are found in: Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, Lincoln Town Car, Mustang, Cougar and Thunderbird models. The settlement could impact over 2 million vehicles and cost Ford up to $375 million USD.

The plastic intake manifolds Ford used were plastic and were notorious for cracking, thus causing coolant leaks.

The terms of the settle include:

·  Ford will reimburse customers with receipts for the intake repair.

·  Ford will pay $735 to those without receipts, provided that they can verify with a dealer that a repair was made.

·  Ford will extend the warranty coverage for customers whose intakes have not failed.

Ford lost an appeal earlier in the year to have the case dismissed.

MID AMERICA SHELBY MEET

We met at 7:30 at the Traditions Restaurant, several Mustangs and several pickups towing trailers. Craig Chesley brought his red 05 Vert, his copilot was Gary Goodman, followed by Lindsey Bradley towing his supercharged 67 GT350, Eddy and Dawn Franks towing the Fender Gripper Ford race car, Mitch Ardoin towing his 66 Shelby inspired fastback nicknamed “The Skunk”, Mark Whitt towing his 65 fastback, Les Jeffcoat towing his 66 coupe, Jerry Christopherson with his 65 Tiger in its “Mini trailer”,John Pritchard was towing his 66 Fairlane “Coughing Coffin” race car, Diana Pritchard was sporting a brand new Sonic Blue 05 GT with paper license plates, Robert Owens in his black Cobra Vert, and Chad and I in Chad’s 03 GT. Quite a parade we had with Craig blazint the trail and Robert bringing up the rear. CB radios were squawking all the way as we cut up and kept up with each other all the way to Tulsa.

Thursday night was the Cruise Night on Peoria Avenue in Tulsa. Four blocks with baracades on each end with policemen turning away everything but Fords. The cars were lined up side by side, backed at an angle to the curb down each side of the street and down the center turn lane. All around the Sonic were more Fords, as well as the parking lots across and down the street.

On Friday the action was out at the Hallett Motor Circuit. I tried to catch some of our guys in action as they came out of the turn on to the straightaway, but you can’t see who they are. Craig brought along a canopy to shield the group from the heat.

It is fun to see vintage Shelby’s and Mustangs out on the track driving them for what they were built for, and those guys weren’t just out there driving around, either. There were separate runs for late models with some pretty fast racing going on.

Saturday brought out the Drag cars out at the Tulsa Drag Strip. We watched some really great racing going on all day long. At the end of the day, Mustangs of East Texas was proud to have our own Eddy Franks line up his Fender Gripper Ford next to John Pritchard’s 66 Fairlane “Coughin Coffin” wagon for the final race. John pulled a red light but rode it hard to the finish. Eddy won by .02 seconds. Way to go guys!!

Sunday was the big parking lot Car Show at the Hotel. We strolled through and hit the road. Several of our guys were entered, Jerry Christopherson rolled his 65 Tiger out of its cocoon, John wiped the drag strip dust off the coffin.

Tulsa is the one annual event that is a no-miss. Any part of it is a full day of fun, but add it all up on a 4 day weekend with all the fun of Mitch’s burnouts and the rest of the MOET gang, this is one fun weekend!

2005 ETCC RAFFLE CAR

If you have not seen it yet, this year the East Texas Crisis Center is selling Raffle Tickets for a Red 2005 Mustang! Tyler Ford has donated a brand new Mustang to help raise funds for the Crisis Center. This is the third year in a row that Tyler Ford has donated the car, and they have been some special cars, but this is the first brand new car.

Tickets are $10 and they are selling very well. This is the Crisis Center’s biggest fundraiser of the year besides the annual Auto and Truck Show in February. If you have never gone and sold raffle tickets, think about volunteering some time. It is a lot of fun, you get to meet a lot of nice people and the people from the East Texas Crisis Center are the most appreciative people I have ever met.

The East Texas Crisis Center is a non-profit organization that provides shelter and assistance to women and children of East Texas who are victims of abuse and violence. They operate a shelter and an emergency hotline. Check them out online at http://www.etcc.org.

MONTHLY CLUB MEETINGS

Our monthly club meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at Traditions on South Broadway, Tyler, just down the street from Lowe’s and Best Buy on the other side of Broadway. The meetings are open to all club members, friends, family, and other interested parties. If you have not been attending meetings, you owe it to yourself to come and join us. This is the place to come for help with your Mustang or to suggest and help us plan club events. If the weather is good we like to cruise up Broadway and back down to the parking lot at Broadway and Rice Rd. If you are unable to make the meeting and have something of importance, please call one of the club officers listed on the back of this newsletter.

OUR NEXT MEETING IS SET FOR TUESDAY, JULY 5, 2005. COME AT 6:30 TO EAT, THE MEETING STARTS AT 7:00 PM. BRING YOUR MUSTANG AND CRUISE WITH US!

Mustangs of East Texas

Minutes of June 2005 Meeting

President David Hartsell opened the meeting at 7:00 PM in the “Big Block” room at Traditions Restaurant in Tyler. We had a large group of members and first time visitors.

The East Texas Crisis Center has a new events coordinator, Carrie Cole. Carrie will be heading up the Raffle Car and the Auto and Cycle show.

The group leaving for Tulsa will meet at 7:30 in the parking lot at Traditions, leaving at 8:00.

There is an SVT meet at College Station the last weekend of the month.

We had a special guest, Holly Clark. Holly’s dad was Phil Clark, the man who drew and designed the original Mustang running pony emblem for the Mustang. The pony emblem has been on all the Mustangs throughout the years.

Phil passed away when Holly was really young. As she grew up, Holly found all kinds of drawings and letters in the closet. When she started going through them she found the original drawings of the running pony and some letters from Ford, along with some press release photos. Holly has spoken with Ford and authenticated the drawings as the originals.

The first annual Phil Clark Car Show is July 2nd in Rusk. It will start with a parade through downtown and the car show is on the square in downtown Rusk. There will be trophies for each class, as well as dash plaques and goody bags. At 2:00 the gates open at the Cherokee County Drag strip, time trials run from 3:00-6:30 and the eliminations start at 7:00.

After the meeting we cruised Broadway. Along the way the rain started and the cruise turned into a swim.

The next meeting is Tuesday, July 5th at Traditions.
