Over the last few months there’s been a dramatic turnaround in capital flows to the Eurozone’s periphery, illustrating the success of ECB President Draghi’s rhetorical flourish last summer to do “whatever it takes” to support EMU.

The European Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kongis pleased to introduce the new Head of Office of the European Union (EU) to Hong Kong and Macao, who will give a few remarks on the current European financial situation. Followed by a European Economist,Mark Cliffewill share his views on the decisions made by the ECB and if the confidence trick worked or will fail in the end.

Mr. Piket has been with the EU since 1992, including more than 10 years in posts on Central and Eastern Europe, and seven years in key positions on Asia.

Before taking up his current post, Mr. Piket served as EU Ambassador to Malaysia from 2008 and 2012. Prior to that, he was Head of Unit for Regional Cooperation Programmes for Asia and Central Asia at the European Commission from 2005 to 2008.
