CRIME PREVENTION

Crime prevention represents one of the most important police activities in Romania. At the national Police level, Crime Prevention and Psycho sociologist Institute manages crime prevention activities, and at the local level, in every county there is an Analysis and Crime Prevention Compartment.

The main features of crime prevention work are the systematic, scientific approach used to substantiate crime prevention strategies, inter-institutional cooperation and social partnership.

Crime prevention involves two main lines of action: research (witch provides a real image of social and criminal context and guides activities in risk areas) and prevention work, materialized in programs and projects designed to prevent certain segments of crime that know high incidence in one place, in a certain period of time. The main method used in crime prevention work is social partnership, the best way to fight against crime.

In MuresCounty, Analysis and Crime Prevention Compartment has four police officers (one is a specialized sociologist), coordinated by a specialized crime prevention officer. Almost all our activities are in cooperation with Public Order Police, Proximity Police especially.

„FOR A SAFE HOLIDAY!” CAMPAIGN- Sovata Resort

Sovata is an important balneal – climacteric resort, visited by many tourists, especially during the summer.

The aim of the campaign was to inform the tourists on different areas: steeling prevention, the connection between drugs and crime, human traffic, missing children, alcohol and violence, traffic safety. The tourists were expected every day at the Police information Point for work shops, drawing competitions for children, competitions for parents and screenings of films/commercials on the mentioned subjects.

The participant’s interest was obvious; the campaign was a success, thanks to the diversity and high number of partners involved.

RECREATIONAL AND SPORTS COMPLEX „MUREŞUL” TG-MUREŞ

With a special landscape, recreational and sports Complex "Mures" in Tirgu Mures has many and varied opportunities for recreation and entertainment. In summer, here spend their leisure time on average 7,000 people per day: various outdoor shows, discos, competitions and sports performances. The complex has its own radio station - Radio Holiday, playing music and commercials all day long.

In August, a big campaign was organized here, in order to inform the visitors about crime prevention, personal safety, road safety, missing children prevention.

The biggest part of the activities was dedicated to car steeling prevention. Police officers and volunteers distributed over 2.000 flyers, posters, in and out the Complex. The most successfully activities were those with the radio station, especially the radio contests with many prizes.

CAMPAIGN TO INFORM ABOUT MISSING CHILDREN

From June to August it was organized a campaign to inform parents and to promote the European phone number 116,000 (for reporting missing, counseling, mentoring).

The main activities were: distributing information materials in schools, hypermarkets, broadcast radio and TV spots, information release, posters exhibition, organizing street competitions, direct contact of police with citizens (especially in places dedicated to children: parks, play), posting information on websites of partners.

Information campaign to prevent thefts from cars

Street crime in Tg-Mures represents almost 60% of street crime committed in the whole county. Thefts from cars, the main problem of street crime, are concentrated in the percentage of over 50% in this city.

This campaign lasted the entire month of March 2009 and was to inform citizens about preventive measures. Posters and flyers were printed, displayed in crowded places (shops, service stations, car wash).

Depending on the areas of risk arising from the analysis (marked on the map for crime), it was established a precise street activities plan. Owners of vehicles that have left inside of the car goods that could attract criminals, have received "a letter" at home in order to worn them about the risks they have assumed.

A real contribution to the success of the campaign was the media to disseminate preventive messages. There were made a spot for the LCD on the street, audio and video spots, contests, shows, articles for informing the population.

NATIONAL PROJECTS CONTEST
"Non-violent school environment"

This is a project initiated in 2007 under the existing partnership between the MuresCounty Police Inspectorate and the School Inspectorate. Editions that followed were enjoyed more success, more and more projects in the competition.
This contest is included in the national calendar of educational activities of the Ministry of Education and Research and is open to all students and teachers who guide teams in extracurricular activities. They set up project teams of 4 members each, and have developed a draft non-formal educational activity.

All participants are winners for choosing to get involved and especially because by the projects they have done, they sent a strong message to all: WITH VIOLENCE ALWAYS LOSE!

CRIME PREVENTION WEEK

To draw attention to the importance of crime prevention, at national and local level, every year there is organized CRIME PREVENTION WEEK campaign – various activities throughout the county, each day on another issue: juvenile delinquency, crime in rural areas, street crime, human rights (local choice), road safety.

The activities are varied: street campaigns, distributing flyers, posters, debates, on line contests, theatre, social projects for youth, meetings with young people in prison, security systems exhibitions etc.

Police and its preventive activities are in the focus of the community in this period. To attract people and achieve our purpose, every year we offer new activities, suitable for each age group.
