CREC Two Rivers Track Teams Have Breakthrough Season:
Finish Hartford Magnet Meet as Dual Champions
(Hartford, CT) This month, the CREC Two Rivers Hurricanes track and field team competed for the first time at the Hartford Magnet Championship. The event was full of great feats of athleticism. Student athletes from the boys and girls teams ran their hearts out, jumped to great lengths, and threw with all of their might. The result: The Two Rivers middle school boys and girls track and field teams both took first place, becoming dual champions in their very first Hartford Magnet Championship appearance.
Some highlights from the girls team included Kaheria Burgess medaling in all of her events: 2nd place in the 200 meter, 1st place in long jump, and 1st place in the 400 meter dash. Allie Sailor took 3rd place in the shot put. Other top performers of the day were Hayley Dougela who took 4th in hurdles and the 1600 meter, Jenna Donnelly who took 4th in the 400 meter, and Emma Kerr who took 4th in the 800 meter. The girls 4 x 800 relay team took 1st place, and the 4 x 100 relay team took 3rd place.
Highlights from the boys team included Chieef Newsome’s 1st place finish in the 200 meter and 3rd place finish in the 100 meter; Javier Serrano took 2nd in the 200 meter and the long jump; Jesus Santiago took 2nd place in the 200 meter and the 1600 meter; Charlton Morgan took 1st place in the 1600 meter and 3rd place in long jump; Zach Lopez took 1st place in shot put while Eric Fielder took 3rd place. The boys relay teams, 4 x 800 and the 4 x 100, both took home 1st place medals. Several other athletes on the boys team placed in the top six, which only added to the overall score of the team.
