This book is the story of young Nat Fielding, a budding young actor chosen to fly from America over to London in order to perform 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' at the newly rebuilt Globe Theatre. After his first rehearsal inside the Globe Nat starts to feel very strange and that night experiences a very high fever and passes out. The next morning he awakes to the voice of a boy he's never seen before in a room that he didn't fall asleep in. As he comes around from his feverish sleep he soon realises he's not in Kansas anymore... The story continues with a dual narrative of Nat in Shakespearean England and in a hospital in current day England. Nat's adventures in pre-20th century England see him meeting Queen Elizabeth I and Shakespeare, being able to perform on the stage in the original Globe theatre, and experiencing all of the trials that the era can throw at him.
